Kingfisher County commissioners tabled Logan County Rural Water District No. 2’s request to annex additional territory during their Aug. 24 meeting.

Robin Wolf (pictured) said wells and springs are drying up and raised concerns about groundwater supplies, agricultural impacts and the reported unauthorized testing of a private well. Residents requested aquifer maps, engineering studies, proposed service locations and clarification about whether the expansion would serve residential or industrial customers.

Water district board member Charley Robinson said the district’s supply comes from wells near Crescent and a shared reservoir. Planned improvements include an approximately $800,000 booster station north of Cashion and a possible 12- or 16-inch river crossing to address limits posed by the current eight-inch line.

Robinson said growth and service requests are driving the expansion. Larger connections would require a water study and could require customer-funded improvements. Commissioners tabled the petition for further review.

Residents also raised concerns about potential data-center development, including the proposed Cloverleaf project. They questioned how large industrial users could affect groundwater, farmland and property values and voiced transparency concerns about utility nondisclosure agreements. Speakers asked the county to consider planning and zoning regulations or a temporary moratorium while the potential impacts are studied.

Commissioners asked residents to submit a formal request by email so discussion of a possible moratorium and county planning and zoning options could be added to next week’s agenda.

This site says the DEQ is committed to transparency and shows all Tier Ii and III applications that are in the permitting process.

Voters across Oklahoma have voted against State Question 844, which keeps the current system in place for how local entities are reimbursed by the state for property tax exemptions.
