Many people have had questions about the blessing boxes we fill as part of our Thanksgiving meal drive, so we wanted to take a moment and offer a few details in the hopes of not only answering questions but also increasing awareness of a non-profit with a beautiful mission.
The Columbus Blessing Boxes Project was founded in January 2018 by a family who was searching for a way to engage their children in serving. Since 2018, this project has expanded into 100 boxes around the central Ohio area. Blessing boxes are outdoor, publicly-located cabinets hat allow for people to anonymously donate items to bless others in need. These boxes can include non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, baby supplies, pet food, or anything else that might be considered a blessing to someone in need. Their only rule - take what you need; leave what you can.
Chris first learned about Columbus Blessing Boxes in January 2021, and we immediately loved the heart behind their mission. In the last two years, our family has grown pretty passionate about helping fill and maintain these boxes and so, when we were looking for a recipient for our meal bags, we felt they'd be the perfect one.
We encourage everyone to take a moment to check out the CBBP page and website. No matter where you live, there's a way to get involved. If you live in central Ohio, I promise you there's at least one box somewhere nearby where you can leave donations. If you don't live in central Ohio, you can contribute financially or purchase directly from their Amazon wishlist.
