A reminder to get outside and celebrate the public lands that make Phoenix such a special place.

Explore our mountain preserves. Take a hike. Discover a new trail. Join a trail restoration or stewardship project. Connect with a local hiking group. Volunteer your time. And, when you can, give back to the local nonprofits working every day to protect and care for these treasured places.

Public lands belong to all of us and their future depends on all of us.

What a great Earth Day at the Phoenix Zoo 💚 From busy booths to curious kiddos, this year’s event brought even more energy, creativity, and learning than ever. Carla kept the fun going with the Saguaro Blooms Ring Toss and Decomposition Board.

We had meaningful conversations with so many visitors, sharing PMPC’s mission, connecting with new supporters, and hearing from those ready to get involved. The interest in volunteering was especially exciting, and we’re looking forward to building those connections.

A special thank you to our board members Jeannie and Carla for making it all happen! Your energy and creativity truly shine and make these events so impactful.

The City Nature Challenge is all week. Nature is everywhere, even in the busiest city. Every observation counts and you can participate from anywhere! Whether you’re out on the trail, exploring your neighborhood, or even in your own backyard, you’re helping document the incredible biodiversity of our region.

Here’s how to get involved:
1. Download iNaturalist App (100% free, nonprofit, and community-powered).
2. Find your local wild nature.
3. Take pictures - they don’t have to be fancy or perfect!
4. Share your photos on iNaturalist to get identification help and contribute to science.

Need a place to start?
🔍 Take on the Species Challenge: upload an arthropod (insects, spiders, and more!) to iNaturalist app
🎯 Try this CNC Bingo Card: spot a saguaro, a roadrunner, something fragrant, and more!

Go at your own pace, explore what’s around you, and most importantly, have fun with it

📲 Don’t forget to upload your observations to iNaturalist so they count!

This Earth Day, we honor Mrs. Dottie Gilbert, one of our founding members: This moment—trail riding through wildflowers in the Phoenix Mountains Preserves—reflects the beauty, joy, and purpose behind preservation. Dottie’s love for horseback riding, the trails and desert blooms helped shape the heart of our preserves.

Because of leaders like Dottie, these spaces continue to bring connection, peace, and inspiration to our community. We feel lucky to have the opportunity to continue to experience and protect these landscapes for generations to come. Protect what you love. Wildflowers are showing off along our trails! From our Member; Craig Weaver: the 15th Avenue Trail is lined with the stunning blooms of Phacelia tanacetifolia and the tiny clustered beauty of Fivewing Spiderling (Boerhavia intermedia).

It’s a beautiful reminder of the diversity and seasonal magic in our desert preserves. 🌼

This morning gave our community a chance to honor Libby Goff, beloved board member, steward, and friend. Libby Goff was a champion for Phoenix’s mountains, a mentor, and a friend who showed us what dedication to place looks like.

We celebrated her legacy through:
🌵 Planting a memorial saguaro
🥾 Hiking trails she loved
💚 Real community connection
🌱 Launching seed balls for future wildflowers
☀️ Mayor Proclamation + Governor Commendation
