One of shame's biggest lies:

"God can forgive everyone else... but not me."

If you've ever felt that way, you're not alone.

This clip addresses the fear and self-condemnation that keep so many people trapped—and reminds us of the truth about God's grace.

Many people approach confession like they're standing before a judge.

But what if that's the wrong picture?

Jesus isn't looking for reasons to condemn you. He's the Great Physician who already knows your story and wants to bring healing to the places you've kept hidden.

Why does the thought of complete honesty feel so terrifying?

Many people don't stop at Step 5 because they don't want healing.

They stop because fear convinces them it's safer to keep hiding.

This short clip explores one of the biggest barriers to recovery—and how God invites us beyond it.

What if the thing you're most afraid to talk about is the very thing keeping you stuck? 🫣

Step 5 of the 12 Steps asks us to do something that feels terrifying: tell the truth.

Not because God wants to shame us.
Not because we need to relive every mistake.

But because healing begins when we stop hiding.

In this new Stepping Into Power video, Dr. Don Middleton explores Step 5: Honesty through a Christian lens and explains why confession isn't about punishment—it's about freedom.

If you've ever wondered:

❓ What if people knew the real me?
❓ What if my mistakes are too big to forgive?
❓ What if honesty only makes things worse?

This message is for you.

Many people in your congregation are struggling silently.

Not because they don't want help—but because they don't know where to find it.

One of the simplest things a church can do is make recovery support visible. Talk about it from the platform. Include it in announcements. Let people know they're not alone and that hope is available.

When churches create safe places for honesty, healing can begin.

🙏 Recovery belongs inside the Church.

Too many people struggling with addiction have been told to “go get help somewhere else.”

But what if recovery was never meant to happen outside the Church?

Healing happens through community, honesty, discipleship, and walking alongside people who are fighting for freedom. That sounds a lot like the early Church to us.

The Church has always been called to help people find freedom — not just from addiction, but from shame, isolation, and hopelessness too.

💬 What do you think? Should recovery ministry be part of every church?

Many churches believe they don’t have the people or resources to start a recovery ministry.

But the leaders may already be sitting in your pews. 🙌

Recovery ministry has always been powered by people who have walked through healing themselves — people with wisdom, empathy, and lived experience that can’t be taught in a classroom.

The Church is more equipped than it realizes. ✝️

In this new video, Dr. Don Middleton shares practical guidance for churches looking to create recovery ministries that are sustainable, peer-led, affordable, and rooted in discipleship and authentic community.

🙌 You may already have the leaders sitting in your pews.
