On this day in 1942, U.S. soldiers and their Filipino allies surrendered the Bataan Peninsula, Philippines. What followed was the 85-mile Bataan Death March to a prisoner of war camp where thousands died. Today we remember the courage and sacrifice of all former Prisoners of War each year April 9th as National Former POW Recognition Day.
