Project Roots is excited to continue our Grow With Pride initiative supporting LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and families in Seattle through indoor food-growing systems, education, and community connection.

Thanks to the support of the Seattle Pride Foundation, we still have 3 Gardyn growing systems available for eligible participants!

This initiative helps participants:
🌿 Grow fresh food at home
📚 Access educational gardening resources
💚 Build community and wellness
🏡 Create sustainable food practices indoors

Applicants must:
📍 Be located in Seattle
🏳️‍🌈 Identify as LGBTQIA2S+

What does food access really mean? 🥬

Food access is about more than having a grocery store nearby.

It’s about whether families can consistently access fresh, healthy, culturally relevant food in a way that is affordable, reliable, and dignified.

For many communities, barriers like:

transportation,
rising food costs,
limited fresh produce options,
and lack of food education
make healthy eating far more difficult than it should be.

At Project Roots, we believe food access also means empowerment.

It means:
🌱 Learning how to grow food
📦 Receiving fresh produce with dignity
🏫 Bringing garden education into schools
💚 Building healthier and more connected communities

Because everyone deserves access to fresh food and the opportunity to thrive.

Why did we start Project Roots? 🌱

What began as a small backyard garden during a difficult season became something much bigger than we ever imagined.

We saw firsthand how many families struggled to access fresh, healthy food — and how growing food could bring people together, create opportunity, and restore hope.

Project Roots was built on the belief that food is more than nourishment. It’s community. It’s education. It’s dignity. It’s connection.

Today, our work includes:
🥬 Food access projects
🌱 Garden education in schools
📦 Produce rescue and distribution
💚 Community partnerships and advocacy

From Phoenix to Seattle, we’re continuing to grow one seed, one meal, and one connection at a time.

We are grateful to have been part of the recent Arizona Racial Justice Initiative convening alongside so many inspiring community leaders, advocates, and organizations committed to equity and systems change across Arizona.

Our Co-Founder & Director of Programs, Jessica Diamond, represented Project Roots in conversations centered around collaboration, community-driven solutions, and strengthening support systems for Black and Native communities throughout the state. 🌱

This gathering created meaningful space for relationship-building, shared learning, and collective action — reminding us how powerful it is when organizations come together with a shared vision for justice and community impact.

We are also deeply appreciative of the Arizona Racial Justice Initiative for investing in Project Roots through operational support funding that helps sustain and strengthen our work in food access, garden education, and community support.
