❤️ CREATING CHANGE STARTS WITH COMMUNITY. ❤️

💔 A Difficult Update from The MASA Project of Arizona

For the past year, we’ve served thousands of hot meals to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity near 19th Avenue & Camelback Road in Phoenix.

Sadly, we were recently informed that property owners near Dollar Dealz no longer want food services or outreach taking place in that area.

We have respected their wishes and discontinued meal service at this location.

Unfortunately, our charity has also endured nearly a year of online harassment targeting our volunteers, supporters, and potential community partners. Despite everything, we’ve continued showing up for those who need us most.

Recently, local officials encouraged us to temporarily step back, reevaluate our strategies, and explore alternative ways to serve our community.

While the circumstances have been unusual, we respect the officials involved and remain committed to working together toward positive solutions. We will also obtain any permits necessary for our operations.

💔 But here’s what breaks our hearts:

The hunger doesn’t stop just because the food service does.

Families are still hungry. People are still sleeping on sidewalks. And many individuals have come to depend on the meals our volunteers provide.

During this transition, we intend to continue distributing water and life-saving Narcan where permitted while working toward new arrangements for our hot meal services.

🙏 We aren’t giving up. We’re adapting.

We believe neighborhoods, property owners, local officials, and nonprofits can work together to create solutions that benefit everyone.

We don’t want conflict. We want compassion.

To everyone who has supported us, volunteered, donated, or simply shared a kind word: THANK YOU. ❤️

Tonight’s outreach took an unexpected and frightening turn.

We served more than 140 hot meals tonight, but during our livestream I noticed a commotion across the street at the liquor store. From where I was standing, it looked like a robbery or a serious fight, so I ran across the street to see if someone needed help.

Inside, two men were violently fighting. One had a handgun and the other had a knife. Both were covered in blood. I immediately tried to separate them and get them away from the weapons. During the struggle, the cashier was able to secure the fi***rm and unload it.

I continued working to separate both men and eventually got them outside and apart. I specifically told them not to return the fi***rm until everyone had calmed down. Unfortunately, both men later went back inside and the fight started again. I intervened again until the violence finally stopped.

I walked away with several minor cuts to my left hand and blood on my hands, uniform and shoes. Thankfully, from what I can tell right now, my injuries are minor.

Tonight was supposed to simply be about feeding our community. More than 140 people received a meal, but within seconds we found ourselves responding to something completely different.

This is the reality of outreach after dark. You never know what you are going to encounter.

I’m grateful nobody was shot or stabbed during the time I was there, and I’m grateful we were able to get the weapons separated from the fight.

Please keep everyone involved in your prayers tonight. ❤️

Thursday night was something special. ❤️

A huge thank you to J-Shop and their amazing colleagues for coming out, rolling up their sleeves, and serving alongside us. Together, we served more than 150 hot plates to people in our community.

But this was about more than food.

At one point, we stopped and prayed together — and people literally stopped in their tracks. For a few moments, the whole block felt different. People gathered. People listened. People hugged. People felt seen.

We didn’t just feed the block.

We helped heal the block.

This is what happens when people come together with compassion, without judgment, and simply choose to show up for one another.

Thank you to every volunteer, every person who donated, every person who served, and every person who shared that moment with us.

150+ plates. One community. A whole lot of love.

❤️ BIG CHANGES ARE HAPPENING AT THE MASA PROJECT

The MASA Project is growing, relocating, and preparing for our next chapter.

We now have a new office location and are in the process of relocating our operations to North Scottsdale and Central Phoenix.

Because of this move, our regular hot meal service will temporarily be reduced to two nights per week for the next two weeks while we transition between locations.

During this short transition, we will not have our regular commercial kitchen space available and will be relying on ghost kitchens and temporary kitchen arrangements to continue preparing meals.

Moving food, equipment, supplies, storage, and volunteers between multiple locations is going to be challenging, so we’re giving our team a little room to get everything set up correctly.

But we still want to serve as many people as possible. ❤️

If a restaurant, business, church, organization, community group, or individual would like to donate or sponsor the meals for one of our other regular service nights, Team MASA WILL still go out and serve.

You provide the meal — we’ll provide the outreach.

Restaurants can donate prepared meals, businesses can sponsor a dinner, community groups can prepare food, and individuals can help cover the cost of a meal night.

This is not a shutdown and it is not the end of our regular outreach.

It is simply a short transition while we establish our new operations in North Scottsdale and Central Phoenix and prepare for the next phase of The MASA Project.

We are incredibly excited about what is coming next.

For two weeks, we may have to slow down a little.

But we’re not going anywhere. ❤️

IT’S OFFICIAL — THE MASA PROJECT HAS AN OFFICE! 🎉

We’re excited to share that The MASA Project now has an official office location in Scottsdale, thanks to an amazing team of people who continue to believe in what we do. ❤️

While this will not be a walk-in facility for guests or direct services, it gives our team something we’ve needed for a long time: a dedicated space to organize outreach, handle administrative work, store supplies, coordinate volunteers, meet with partners, plan fundraising efforts, and continue building MASA into a stronger and more sustainable organization.

Our mission hasn’t changed. We’re still out in the community serving people directly, providing meals, supplies, resources, and support with pride. That work will always be at the heart of The MASA Project.

But as we continue growing, it’s time for us to become a little more organized, a little more professional, and spend meaningful time behind the scenes rebuilding, planning, and creating the foundation we need for the future.

We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’re picking ourselves back up and moving forward.

This office represents more than a mailing address or a desk.

It represents our next chapter.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support The MASA Project of Arizona. We’re just getting started. ❤️

Tonight we ended up serving over 170 meals. Unfortunately, we had a couple people show up after all the food was gone. Our director Erik took them to the Carniceria and grabbed them some food. The little acts of kindness are what really makes the world go around for people that are having a hardship. Be kind. Go that extra mile.

Our team is growing — and so is the need. ❤️

Last night, 8 amazing volunteers showed up and helped us serve more than 103 of our unsheltered friends here in Phoenix! We actually ran out of food pretty quickly. 😅

Our volunteers served 25 pounds of pulled pork, rice, vegetables, and tons of baked goodies — all prepared and handed out with dignity, kindness, and love.

But we need some help.

Our pantry has been empty for the past few months, which means we’ve been purchasing most of the food for these meals ourselves, day by day. We keep doing what we can with what we have because people are hungry, and we refuse to simply look the other way.

This is local hunger. Local people. Local volunteers. Right here in Phoenix, Arizona.

If you believe in fighting hunger in your own community, please consider helping us keep these meals going. Even a small donation can help us buy meat, rice, vegetables, drinks, bread, and everything else it takes to put another hot plate into someone’s hands.

And if you can’t donate, share this post. That helps too. ❤️

We’re growing. The need is growing. And with a little more community support, we can feed even more people.

Help us keep Phoenix fed. 🌵❤️
