Today was our first time meeting Joe. Joe was blown away that he could get a shower, head-to-toe new wardrobe, haircut, meal, and laundry services. We noticed Joe had on an old busted pair of slides, and knew we had a pair of 11.5’s in the truck, and we asked him what size he wore, and Joe said “11”. Told him to come and see us before he left because we had a new pair of shoes for him.
We LOVE seeing Joe’s reaction to seeing the Nike Swoosh. Joe is so grateful for the shoes. Joe kept repeating “I don’t deserve this” as he was giving me a hug. Then at the end of the video, Joe says “I don’t know why good s**t happens to a piece of s**t like me.” We immediately let Joe know that we don’t like hearing him say that. It is heartbreaking hearing how many of our guests experiencing homelessness think this way about themselves. Our main goal as an organization is to do everything we can to have every guest walk away from our services knowing that people care about them. We made sure Joe knew how happy we were to meet him and he said we will 100% see him again. We are so grateful to be able to do the work we do. Thank you for allowing us to show Joe that he is cared about.
