The Phoenix - Pennsylvania is building a community care center on Roy Street, between Rising Sun and Sedgely Ave — they are almost finished with their free membership-based home for the sober active community in North Philadelphia, a place to train, climb, lift, and belong.

Our grant has helped The Phoenix, a national model for facilitating connection within the community, move toward taking on local leaders by hosting local engagement events with other neighborhood organizations.

As a second-year grantee, we have seen that they have achieved community connection, even before they open the doors to their local wellness center. This space opens in January next year through peer-led, trauma-informed programs at the Roy Street location, providing the community a space to achieve long-term sobriety.

This year we funded the work of Rock to the Future Musicommunuty program at As I Plant This Seed to give teens ages 13 – 19, regular access to tools for music-making and a weekly class to join.

We are excited to learn more about the impact outcomes in regard to music making with local youth and creative resources to learn with others.

As we open the school year, our grantee Tree House Books will allow more students to open books in Hunting Park - East Tioga. Placing a culturally focused bookshelf in a local school, an affordable housing lobby, and an afterschool programming facility promotes the lifelong love of reading and writing.

Tree House Book Shelves are at The School District of Philadelphia Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School, with North10 Philadelphia's Be A Gem Affordable Housing Units, and North10 Philadelphia's after-school programming at The Lenfest Center.

In an era of digital reading and AI writing, we support the fundamental work of literacy toward academic success, career readiness, and personal empowerment through access to books.

Our grantee, North Philly Aztec , has been providing a positive environment for the kids and families through sports and community service. Every year, they register over 300 kids into their program to keep them active and away from the streets for a few hours a day, 7 days a week.

The impact of their work benefits kids with disciplined principles to help them navigate through life.

HCL Philanthropy empowers our grantees by spotlighting their incredible work.

We are thrilled to highlight Children's Crisis Treatment Center's work through School-Based Care Coordination services in Hunting-Park East Tioga neighborhood schools, including Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School within The School District of Philadelphia.

These Care Coordinators partner with schools to identify students in need of mental health support and link students and families to community resources. Service linkages are intended to remove barriers and external stressors to increase family stability and ensure that each child has a supportive environment to thrive.
