Where It Started, and Where We’re Going

When we started Philly Select back in 2009, we didn’t have much, just a belief, a few committed families, and a group of young men willing to show up and put the work in. To every former player, coach, and parent who believed in the vision early on, thank you. We watched those young men grow up right before our eyes. We saw them go from kids learning how to run plays and tie their sneakers properly to graduating high school and stepping onto college campuses. Every single one of them. That’s something no one can take away from us. We practiced in local gyms, traveled to tournaments, had tough conversations, celebrated wins, learned from losses, and built something bigger than basketball. Over time, it became clear, this wasn’t just a team. We became family.
Philly Select has always been about Books • Basketball • Life. And that mission doesn’t change, even as the world around us does. Today’s generation is navigating challenges that feel louder, faster, and more complicated than ever, socially, culturally, and right here in our own city. The pressure is different. The distractions are stronger. The climate can feel unstable. But the need for structure, mentorship, accountability, and opportunity is still the same.
As we look toward the next chapter, I’m excited about what’s ahead. The next generation deserves guidance. They deserve support. They deserve someone in their corner reminding them that discipline, education, and character still matter. To our alumni, we’re forever connected. To our families, thank you for trusting us. To the next group coming up, we’re ready. If you're interested in collaborating, supporting programming, or investing in the next generation, we welcome the conversation.
