We’re excited to spotlight Dr. Coles of Overbrook High School, who’s teaching Personal Finance for the first time this year! Her energy and creativity in helping students build smart money habits and avoid financial pitfalls shine through every lesson.

Recently, she welcomed Youseff Tannous from KeyBank to speak with her class about career paths in banking, credit unions, and beyond—bringing real-world insight straight to her students.

Thank you, Dr. Coles, for inspiring the next generation of financially savvy learners!

Starting with the Class of 2027, financial literacy becomes a graduation requirement in Pennsylvania!

Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, all PA high school students will need to complete at least ½ credit in personal finance before graduating — thanks to Act 35 of 2023.

At Philadelphia Financial Scholars, we’re already helping schools across the state bring this to life. With a proven record of empowering students and supporting teachers, we’re proud to help schools meet this new requirement with confidence.

Today’s the day!
We’re kicking off a powerful morning at Franklin Towne Charter High School as part of Philadelphia Phinancial Literacy Week (PPLW) — featuring keynote speaker Jacky L. Petit-Homme and special guest PA State Treasurer Stacy Garrity.

Together, they’ll inspire students to invest in themselves, build financial confidence, and see how financial education opens doors to lifelong opportunity.

10/17/2025

We invite local professionals into classrooms all year long—but starting next week, we’re going ALL OUT for Philadelphia Phinancial Literacy Week!

Over 20 guest speakers are headed to high schools across the city, reaching nearly 1,500 students with real-world lessons about money, careers, and confidence.

We can’t wait to share the highlights—follow along all week!
