Founder/Clinical Director of Sankofa Healing Studio

Jacqui Johnson, a Somatic Social-Justice Art + Play Therapist, prioritizes the need to bridge the Black mental health access gap while upending oppression within healing spaces. Her advanced training in multiple evidence-based modalities informs her unique holistic style blending Art, Play, Storytelling, Hip-Hop, Brainspotting, EMDR, and Energy-based practices. Jacqui is an educator who lectures widely, provides supervision, consultation, and leads international initiatives that increase training accessibility to Therapists of Color.

Jacqui’s expertise and community work is rooted in the importance of gender and trauma-responsive care. She addresses head-on the complex intersectionality of adverse childhood experiences, race, community violence, and the (in)justice system. This belief is what led her to work with people within the criminal justice system. Jacqui developed and facilitates trauma-responsive art therapy groups at the Philadelphia county jail for women and incarcerated youth, addressing the unique challenges that individuals with trauma, compounded by incarceration, face. She believes that reclaiming our past, provides us with valuable knowledge to protect our future, while understanding and shifting our present condition.

Dorothea Atkins, ThD, BSN, MA, LMT, Founder and CEO of Holos Touch LLC, teaches and empowers easy self-help options for chronic joint pain relief.

Dr. Atkins has combined her career as a nurse, teacher, massage therapist, and researcher to re-think our current healthcare system of managing chronic joint pain. Her belief in the body’s ability to heal led to her doctoral dissertation research on “The Effects of Self-Massage on Osteoarthritis of the Knee: a Randomized, Controlled Trial” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3577640/.

This patient-centered transformational mind and body self-care option is not a replacement for conventional pain management. Instead, a drug-less complement to physical therapy, exercise, weight loss, treatments, walking, yoga, etc. This self-empowering transformational self-help method of pain relief has taught thousands of patients via workshops and individual instruction to healthcare professionals, athletics, workplace wellness “lunch and learn,” seniors, and more in the past fifteen years.

At Holos Touch, we focus on understanding the function of muscles, massage, and the various self-massage techniques that provides immediate self-care relief from pain. The methods are safe, effective, proven, and can be done anytime and anywhere. She wears an anatomy suit when teaching groups to provide an engaging hands-on learning experience.
