Trippley Foundation We have several programs located in Chester, Pennsylvania, and virtually.

Our mission is to enrich all children’s lives by giving them opportunities to develop their cognitive intelligence, open their hearts, learn new skills, and rediscover hope.

Kia Medley-Stephens is a licensed therapist and a parent. She's seen a lot of grief programs over the years. Here's what she says about this one:

"If I had a young child, I would send my child to the program 'cause it's so good."

Kia is the lead counselor for Camp Encouragement, Pathfinders, and Jovonne's Healing Center for Kids. She starts wide with every kid. Grief can mean a parent who's incarcerated, a move to a new school, a divorce that left one parent out of the house, or a pet who's gone. Every kid gets to name their own.

At camp, that looks like group sessions, field trips, and mindfulness practice, plus one-on-one time with Kia whenever a camper wants it.

None of it costs families a thing, and that's where Will's Night Out comes in. Three weeks from Saturday, we're celebrating Pat and the community that keeps all of this free.

The coach who noticed he stopped staying after practice. The auntie who only gets one-word texts back now. The neighbor who hasn't seen her out on the porch with her friends since spring.

Sometimes the adult who spots the change first is a step or two outside the house. Teens can hold it together at home for a long time.

Pathfinders is a free group for teens 13 to 17 working through loss in any form: the death of someone close, a parent's incarceration, a divorce, or something that doesn't have a name yet. Once a month, they get dinner, homework help, time with licensed counselor Kia Medley-Stephens, LPC, and some backup from other teens carrying something too.

The next session is one week from today.

Some kids need to get their hands busy before they're ready to say a word. Others show up with plenty to say and nowhere that feels safe enough to say it. Two weeks from tomorrow, there's room for both.

Here's how the evening runs:

🎨 4:00 PM | Room to create
Healing Connections. A working artist sets out the supplies, and kids paint, draw, and build next to other kids who've been through a loss too. Nobody has to explain theirs to join in.

💛 5:00 PM | Room to talk
Jovonne's Healing Center for Kids. Licensed counselor Kia Medley-Stephens picks up where the art leaves off, for the kids who are ready to put some of it into words.

🚗 6:00 PM | Pickup
Maybe they'll tell you about it in the car. Maybe they won't, and that's fine too.

Loss comes in every form for kids: a death in the family, a divorce, a parent who's incarcerated, a house that feels different than it did last year. Kids can come for one hour or stay for both.

Nineteen years of this work has reached a lot of families, and plenty of them have a name they'd like to see in print.

Maybe it's the grandmother who raised you. A brother, a best friend, a parent you still talk to in your head on the drive home. Maybe it's Pat herself, and the thank-you you've been meaning to say out loud for years.

The Will's Night Out program book has room for all of it. Tribute pages sit right alongside ads from local businesses, all in one book at the heart of the evening on October 24. Whatever you choose to put on your page, it also helps keep the Foundation's counseling and support programs free for the next family who needs them.

You've had the flyer saved for weeks. Maybe the registration link too. So what's actually keeping you from hitting register?

For a lot of parents, it's not the paperwork. It's the voice that says asking for help means admitting something's wrong in your family. It's watching people you love carry loss for years with nobody ever showing them how to put it down, so nobody ever showed you what asking looks like either. Sometimes it's simpler than that: trusting a stranger with your kid's pain when you don't know them yet feels like one risk too many.

None of that makes you wrong. It makes you a parent who's been protecting your family the only way anyone ever taught you how.

Here's what we want you to know before you close this app: this isn't a system you owe an explanation to. The counselors who lead these programs come from this same community, and they already understand what you're not saying out loud. Your kid doesn't need you to have the words figured out first. They just need you to make the call.

Every program here is free. Every one is confidential. And every one starts the same way, with a parent who decided the fear wasn't going to get the last word.

Race 3 marks the halfway point of this fall's Healthy Kids Running Series, five Sundays in, five to close out the season. By the midpoint, most kids have gone from needing convincing to get out of the car to racing straight for the start line.

Every runner crosses the same finish line to the same cheer, whether it's their first race of the season or their third. No experience needed, no pace to hit, just showing up.

For a teen whose world has already changed once without warning, that kind of consistency isn't small. Camp Encouragement: Pathfinders is a free program for teens ages 13 to 17, open to any teen who can get to Upper Chichester, PA, built around dinner, homework help, and an hour set aside just for them, every first Wednesday, no exceptions.

Teens come to Pathfinders carrying loss in every form: the death of someone close, a parent's incarceration, divorce, or something that doesn't have a tidy name yet. What gets said in that group stays there. Nothing leaves it.

Led by licensed counselor Kia Medley-Stephens, LPC, this has become something teens keep choosing to come back to, month after month.

There's a moment Pat sees happen almost every time. A room full of adults sit down, start talking through their own losses, and partway through, the reason they showed up finally clicks into place.

Kids do it too, in their own way. Pat has watched them talk about grandmothers they used to spend every weekend with, gone now, and nothing since that's filled that space.

Loss doesn't look the same for a five-year-old as it does for an adult, and it doesn't always look like the kind you'd expect. Sometimes it's a parent behind bars. Sometimes it's a divorce. Sometimes it's a pet. Pat treats all of it the same way: worth showing up for.

"That's what it's all about," she says. "To help them, give them tools, and help them maneuver through the loss of their loved one."

This October, Will's Night Out celebrates the woman who built a free program around exactly that belief, and the community that keeps it running. You dropped everything to help your kid through their hardest year. Who dropped everything for you?

Parents and caregivers carrying loss spend so much energy making sure everyone else in the family has somewhere to put what they're carrying that their own usually gets left for later. Jovonne's Healing Center for Adults is that later, a free, confidential virtual hour open to any adult working through loss in any form: death, divorce, incarceration, addiction, or something that doesn't have a name yet.

A few signs your own loss has been waiting its turn:
🗣️ Explaining someone else's absence better than you can explain your own
📅 Rescheduling everything around everyone else, every time
🌫️ Running on autopilot until something small knocks you sideways
⏳ Telling yourself you'll deal with it once things calm down

None of that is failure. It's what happens when your own loss keeps getting bumped for someone else's schedule, including your kid's. This Thursday, an hour is set aside just for you, wherever you're joining from.
