Breaking barriers in one of the toughest cancers.

We’re proud to spotlight groundbreaking research from Penn Vet that could transform how we treat pancreatic cancer.

By using lipid nanoparticles to reprogram CAR T cells inside the body, researchers are targeting the support system tumors rely on—effectively “melting away” the protective barrier that has long made solid tumors so difficult to treat.

This innovative approach not only shows promise in slowing tumor growth, but could also lead to safer, more accessible, and more cost-effective therapies—opening the door for CAR T success beyond blood cancers.

Because progress means finding new ways in—especially when the odds are toughest.

Early detection saves lives, and new guidance is helping lead the way.
At Philly Fights Cancer, we’re proud to share the latest advancements from American Dental Association and Penn Dental Medicine’s Center for Integrative Global Oral Health.

Their first set of living guidelines for early oral cancer detection reinforces a critical truth: routine clinical oral exams remain the foundation for catching cancer early—when it’s most treatable. The recommendations also emphasize biopsy as the gold standard for diagnosis and provide important clarity on when additional testing is (and isn’t) effective.

As research evolves, so will these guidelines—ensuring clinicians and patients have access to the most up-to-date, evidence-based care.

Because progress in prevention and early detection is just as important as breakthroughs in treatment.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the enduring legacy of Madlyn Abramson—a beloved mother, friend, and visionary whose impact continues to shape the future of cancer care. 💛

Her bold leadership and generosity helped lay the foundation for Philly Fights Cancer and transformed how Penn Medicine advances research and delivers compassionate, patient-centered care.

Today, her legacy lives on in every breakthrough, every clinical trial, and every life touched. Philly Fights Cancer is proud to carry her mission forward by supporting life-saving research at the Abramson Cancer Center—the place that bears her name and continues her extraordinary vision.

Cancer treatment should never be one-size-fits-all, and treatment requires a whole person approach for each patient.
It is also becoming essential to address the psychosocial needs of family and loved ones and support their preparedness for the complexities of caregiving as cancer treatment increasingly moves into the outpatient setting.
That is why Penn Medicine offers a growing suite of supportive services, including mental health support, spiritual care, fertility preservation, social work, and palliative care.

A breakthrough in precision cancer research. 🔬

At Philly Fights Cancer, we’re proud to support groundbreaking innovation from Penn Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Researchers have developed a first-of-its-kind CRISPR-based platform that can pinpoint the genetic drivers of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)—directly within a patient’s own cancer cells. This means scientists can better understand how each individual’s cancer behaves, why some treatments stop working, and how to identify more effective, targeted therapies faster than ever before.

By unlocking how cancer operates at the genetic level, this innovation brings us one step closer to truly personalized treatment—and better outcomes for patients facing aggressive diseases like AML.

May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month—a time to prioritize prevention, early detection, and smarter, more personalized care.

At Penn Medicine, researchers are continuing to uncover how genetic and immune system traits shape a patient’s response to melanoma treatment—paving the way for therapies that are more targeted, more effective, and easier on the body.

At Philly Fights Cancer, we’re proud to fund the clinical trials at the Abramson Cancer Center that are driving these breakthroughs—advancing how we prevent, detect, and treat skin cancer every day.

And a reminder as we head into sunnier days: daily sunscreen is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to protect your skin year-round.

Did you know? Today is Philly Fights Cancer: Round 4 performer Jerry Seinfeld’s birthday.

Throwing it back to November 10, 2018, when Jerry joined us backstage at Philly Fights Cancer—bringing the laughs to an unforgettable night.

Together, we raised over $2 million to fuel life-saving cancer research right here in Philadelphia.

Taking one additional pill could buy more than an extra year of precious time for people with advanced triple-positive breast cancer.
“Adding palbociclib, a well-tolerated oral agent, to our standard treatment regimen provides a substantial and meaningful prolongation of response time and disease control for these patients who suffer from a currently incurable disease,” said Angela DeMichele, MD, MSCE, the Mariann T. and Robert J. MacDonald Professor in Breast Cancer Care Excellence at Penn Medicine, who was part of the research team.

Words can heal in ways medicine alone cannot.

Learn about the story of Deborah Burnham and the Writing a Life program at Abramson Cancer Center—a space where patients are invited to process, reflect, and reclaim their stories through writing.

Through thoughtful prompts and shared experiences, patients explore the visible and invisible marks cancer leaves behind—finding connection, courage, and even a little bit of magic in their words.

Because healing isn’t just physical, it’s emotional, creative, and deeply human.

April is National Cancer Control Month and Cancer Prevention & Early Detection Month, a powerful reminder that knowledge, screening, and early action save lives.

At Philly Fights Cancer, we’re committed to funding the breakthroughs that make early detection more accessible and more effective—especially for cancers like testicular, esophageal, and head & neck.

Through our support of clinical trials at Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center, we’re helping drive research that catches cancer sooner, improves outcomes, and gives patients more personalized paths forward.

Early detection isn’t just awareness—it’s action. And it saves lives.

When cancer strikes, the deepest wounds often aren't physical.
The Psychosocial Oncology Clinic at Penn Medicine Princeton Health is redefining care, offering patients and caregivers free, specialized mental health support alongside medical treatment.
“We talk about precision oncology, meaning, get the right drug to the right patient at the right time. This is trying to get the right support to the right patient and the right way,” said Ramy Sedhom, MD (center), clinic co-leader with Rebecca Boswell, PhD (right).
Funded with a $2.6 million gift, the program is expected to expand to additional sites in 2026. ""It’s important everywhere,"" said Abramson Cancer Center director Robert Vonderheide, MD, DPhil. “What good is it if we treat a patient and cure them of breast cancer, only to have them emerge with a cancer-induced depression?"
