Important Update from Rose Acerra, National PTA's Vice President of Advocacy Re: President Releases FY27 Budget & Appropriations Work Begins

Earlier this month, President Trump published his Administration’s proposal for the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) federal budget that would run from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, including the Administration’s proposal for the Department of Education. This article from Education Week provides an excellent summary of the proposal’s recommendations related to education, including its recommendation to increase funding for IDEA and maintain funding for Title I, while also decreasing or eliminating funding for most other K-12 programs. Overall, the proposal seeks to cut federal spending by about $8.5 billion dollars for K-12 programs.

Importantly, the President’s Budget released each year is only a proposal. It is now up to Congress to decide how much funding to allocate for specific programs. Our team at National PTA has already developed a letter that we have been sending to congressional leaders and you are welcome to share, urging our elected officials to protect and champion the programs that serve children, families, and schools. National PTA has also developed a new action alert that we encourage you to share with your network, empowering our members to message Congress and advocate with one PTA voice for our nation’s children, families, and schools.

Have you heard of SAP?

A lot of parents haven’t, but it can be a really helpful support through your child’s school.

And you don’t have to wait for the school to bring it up first.
