A Helping Paw for Wuzy Wuzy

For over a year, 11-year-old Wuzy Wuzy has struggled with persistent skin issues. Recently, her condition took a turn for the worse; she was losing hair, scratching constantly, and clearly losing her usual spark.

Wuzy and her owner are cherished members of our home-delivered meals program. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, their social worker reached out to us to help Wuzy get the medical attention she so desperately needed.

The Diagnosis
During a sick exam at a local veterinarian, a skin scrape test came back negative. However, the true culprits were soon discovered: fleas and a surprising case of worms.

The Path to Recovery
To get her back on track, Wuzy has started a comprehensive treatment plan:
*Bravecto: To eliminate the flea infestation.
*Profender: To treat the internal parasites.
*Prednisone: To provide immediate relief from her intense itching.

We are hopeful that Wuzy will find relief from the "itchies" very soon, allowing her to return to her role as a happy, healthy companion to her senior mom.

Healing Teddy Blue: A Second Chance at Life

Today is a major milestone for a very special "son" named Teddy Blue.

Teddy is a spirited 8.5-year-old mixed breed with a story that began right under his mom’s bed. He has been a cherished member of his family since the very day he was born, but recently, his life—and his mom’s heart—took a painful turn.

The Challenge

Following a medical complication, Teddy began struggling with a severe perineal hernia. The symptoms were frightening and painful, leaving him unable to perform basic functions without extreme distress. Without advanced surgery, Teddy was facing a lifetime of heavy daily medications or a devastating "final" decision that no pet parent should ever have to make.

His mom reached out to 11 different organizations, desperate to save her "boy" from a condition she described as "agonizing" for them both. "He is very much my son and family," she told us. "I want him to remain healthy and comfortable as long as he lives."

The Turning Point

We are so happy to share that today, Teddy Blue is finally in surgery. This lifesaving procedure is happening because his mom never gave up. While his mom worked tirelessly to secure smaller grants from a couple of other organizations to chip away at the cost, Sam’s Hope provided the largest portion of the funding to finally bridge the gap and make the surgery possible.

Because of this support, Teddy’s mom no longer has to face the heartbreaking choice of surrender or saying goodbye. Instead, she can look forward to Teddy being healthy, comfortable, and right where he belongs—at home.

How You Help

When you support our Veterinary Care Assistance Program, you aren't just paying a medical bill—you are keeping families together. You are the reason Teddy Blue gets to go home and sleep in his favorite spot again, pain-free.

Join us in sending Teddy Blue all the positive, healing vibes for a smooth recovery today! (Actually, he had surgery yesterday, and is home recovering under the watchful eye of his momma. He is doing well!)

Dental Day Success for Nene and Noni!

Both of these sweet rescues officially had their dental procedures yesterday. Here is the breakdown of their journey from the initial exam to their successful recoveries.
*****
Noni: The Petite Powerhouse
The Initial Visit: Noni’s mom was worried about her "snorting," fearing a heart or lung issue. Our partner vet discovered the heart was fine, but the real culprit was severe dental disease, including bleeding gums and significant inflammation.

The Dental Update: During her surgery yesterday, the vet confirmed the extent of the damage. Noni had 7 teeth extracted. Now that those sources of pain and infection are gone, we expect her "snorting" to subside and her energy to soar!
*****
Nene: The Lanky Legend
The Initial Visit: Nene came in to check on some mysterious skin growths and a persistent dental issue. While the growths turned out to be harmless scabs, his exam revealed gum disease that was likely causing him discomfort.

The Dental Update: Nene’s procedure went very smoothly! His dental health wasn't quite as advanced as his sister’s, and he only required one tooth extraction. He is already on the mend and back to his lanky, happy self.

Both pups are recovering comfortably at home with their mom. We are so glad we could help this family get the specialized care these two needed to live pain-free!

Philly Street Survivors Get a Second Chance at a Smile! 🐾

Meet Noni and Nene, a dynamic duo who were rescued from the streets of Philly by a mom who loves them dearly. While she worked hard to keep them vaccinated and cared for through low-cost clinics, she knew they needed more than just the basics—but the cost of full-service exams was a massive hurdle.

She reached out to us for help, and we were so glad she did! Here’s the update on this brother-sister pair:

🐕 Nene: The Lanky & Long-Legged Brother
Nene’s mom was worried about some recurring black skin growths. After a thorough exam with our partner vet, we got some great news: they were just small, harmless scabs (one was even mistaken for a tick at first glance!).

However, Nene’s mouth told a different story. Like many Chihuahuas his age, he is suffering from gum disease and will likely need several extractions to get back to 100%.

🐕 Noni: The Petite & Chubby Sister
Noni’s mom was terrified when Noni started making strange "snorting" sounds. After a full checkup, the vet confirmed her heart and lungs are strong—the snorting was actually caused by severe dental infection and inflammation. Noni’s mouth was in rough shape, with bleeding gums and foul breath, making it clear that a dental overhaul was the key to her comfort.

✨ The Path to Healing
Before we could schedule their surgeries, both pups needed bloodwork to ensure they could safely handle anesthesia. We are thrilled to share that both Noni and Nene passed with flying colors!

What’s next?
Both pups are officially scheduled for their dental surgeries next week. They’ll be heading into the spring with fresh breath, healthy gums, and no more dental pain!

We are so happy we could provide this peace of mind for their mom and a healthier future for these two sweet survivors. Stay tuned for their post-surgery updates! ❤️
