For Ryan Colbert, The Consul hits close to home.

In this reel, Ryan (Magda Sorel, 5/20 performance) candidly reflects on supporting her husband through the immigration process—the paperwork, the uncertainty, the fear of getting something wrong, and the emotional toll of navigating a system that can feel isolating and unsupported.

“In 1950, the immigration process was extremely difficult and now when we were doing this process in 2023, it was daily stress. It was all we could talk about.”

Though The Consul premiered in Philadelphia in 1950, the realities at its center still resonate deeply today. We’re grateful to Ryan for sharing her story with such openness and honesty.
