There is a unique spirit of unity and cooperation that is taking place among the clergy of our city. Over the past several years numerous organizations, leaders and business owners from across the city and church affiliations, ethnic and cultures have gathered together to pray, talk and have fellowship with one another. As a result, a spirit and attitude of harmony and togetherness have joined our hearts together as one heart.
We began to realize that we needed to share publicly what the Lord was doing with us privately. Therefore it is our collective intention to openly declare “Jesus” to a hurting city that is looking for love. 2015 was the kickoff year for this great event. In 2017, we had a groundbreaking opportunity to do One City One Love 2017 at Independence Mall! We usually host this event on the Saturday of Pentecost weekend!
According to reports generated by the Philadelphia Police Department, total violent crime has decreased by 3% and total property offenses by 2% (from 2016 to 2017). However, within the city of “Brotherly Love,” the homicide rate had still managed to increase by 14% in that same time frame. Nevertheless we have seen faith-based organizations (FBOs) utilize proactive approaches as a response to inner-city violence by way of developing programming inclusive of community, economic and youth development solutions in inner cities across the country. The heart behind bringing together churches and organizations in a unique spirit of unity and cooperation demonstrates the counter-cultural response to the devastating crime statistics we face as a city.
Over the past several years numerous pastors, ministers, and clergy from across the city and church affiliations, ethnic and cultural distinctions have gathered together to pray, talk and have fellowship with one another. Instantly, they had began to realize the need for faith based organizations to step in and strategize community development programming starting with the One City One Love Festival (also referred to as “One City One Love” or “1 City 1 Love”) in 2015. One City One Love had become an absolute success for positive community development in our inner city and has continued every year (inclusive, but not limited to the following activities: food, face painting, a petting zoo, clothing drive, talent show, and entertainment).
