MONROVIA, Liberia – Tuesday, April 22, 2025 – In a stunning legal development, Montserrado County District #11 Representative Richard Nagbe Koon, Self-proclaimed Majority Bloc House Speaker, is facing a divorce lawsuit from his estranged wife, Mrs. Cecelia Kpor Koon. Filed at the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, the lawsuit cites incompatibility, abandonment, adultery, and accuses the lawmaker of bigamy, immigration fraud, forgery, and spousal neglect.
According to court documents, Mrs. Koon and Representative Koon were married on July 29, 2015, in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, after he presented a Liberian divorce decree dated June 5, 2015, allegedly ending his prior marriage with Madam Angeline W. Koon.
However, Mrs. Koon claims that during their marriage, Rep. Koon engaged in extramarital affairs with two women—Christiana Belloh Tue and Gifty Faikai with whom he reportedly fathered a child. More seriously, she alleges that in August 2021, Christiana Tue fraudulently filed a U.S. immigration petition falsely identifying herself as Rep. Koon’s legal spouse, despite his ongoing marriage to Mrs. Koon.
The lawsuit outlines that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) denied Tue’s petition in a decision dated December 1, 2022.
The denial reportedly cited misrepresentation, forged documents, and inconsistencies, including a counterfeit divorce certificate between Richard Nagbe Koon and Mrs. Koon.“This proves criminal bigamy, forgery, and immigration fraud,” the complaint asserts, calling for full legal accountability for both Rep. Koon and Ms. Tue.
Additionally, Mrs. Kpor Koon alleges that the lawmaker barred her from accessing jointly owned properties—two duplexes labeled R09 and R10, located in Maryland, USA—despite a notarized ownership agreement.
She further claims that he failed to provide financial support and subjected her to abandonment and emotional distress.
The petition also accuses Rep. Koon of physical and emotional abuse, characterizing him as “quarrelsome, violent, and cruel.” Mrs. Koon contends that her husband abandoned their marital home shortly after his 2018 election to the Liberian House of Representatives and has since neglected all spousal responsibilities.
“My life is in danger. I am enslaved in a web of deception,” she stated in her filing, urging the court to grant immediate relief and annul the marriage.
If substantiated, the allegations could constitute a violation of Chapter 15 of the Liberian Penal Code on Bigamy and may also result in penalties under U.S. immigration law.
Legal experts say the case could have serious legal ramifications, while political observers warn it could severely damage Rep. Koon’s credibility and derail his ambition to ascend to the position of Speaker of the House.
