We were so excited to welcome our girls back for the second Saturday of our healing centered STEM series! This month’s focus was DNA & You, where we explored the science that lives inside each of us.

Together, the girls discovered that DNA helps shape our unique traits, like hair texture, skin tone, eye color, and so much more. We also talked about how doctors, naturopaths, biomedical scientists, and public health leaders use DNA knowledge to help communities stay healthy and thrive.

This session was designed to help our girls:
Build confidence in who they are
Understand the science inside their own bodies
Celebrate identity, heritage, and uniqueness
See themselves as future doctors, healers, and scientists

The energy in the room was powerful, our girls were engaged, thoughtful, proud, and brilliant as always. We are so honored to walk alongside them as they learn, discover, and lead.

Happy Veterans Day 💜

We honor the heroes who have sacrificed, served, and protected. Your resilience and dedication inspire our girls to lead with strength and purpose. May our girls always know that bravery comes in many forms, and that they, too, can make a powerful impact in this world.

With gratitude, today and every day.

We are so excited to continue our STEM Healers: The Science of Wellness & Medicine series! Each month, our girls engage in empowering, hands-on STEM experiences that center the power of science, healing, culture, and community.

This month’s focus:
DNA & You: The Blueprint of Life
Girls will explore what makes each of us unique on the inside, from traits to identity to the beauty of our genetic code. They’ll extract DNA, build models, and begin seeing themselves as future scientists, doctors, researchers, and healers.

Our FIRST STEM Saturday of the season was a success! Esteem Girls kicked off our STEM Healers: The Science of Wellness & Medicine series with a day full of learning, creativity, and sisterhood.

From powerful recitations of “Hey Black Child” to a hands-on STEM Career Gallery highlighting inspiring Black and Brown women in medicine, the girls explored what it means to be a healer and how science impacts our communities.

They also dove into interactive STEM activities exploring how our bodies work, connecting science with self-discovery and empowerment.

This year’s theme is all about healing and health, inspired by women trailblazers in medicine who are paving the way for the next generation of innovators.

We are so proud of our Esteem Girls for showing up with energy, curiosity, and imagination. We can’t wait to continue this journey all season long!

Our Story

Esteem Girls Inc. responds to the need to increase minority and under resourced girl’s aptitude and interest so that they can be prepared to successfully enroll in STEM fields. The academic preparation currently being offered isn’t sufficient for students to excel in STEM. Schools are currently under staffed, and facing many financial cuts, along with limited resources available. The need for academic enrichment in STEM for minorities and under resourced communities cannot be overstated. According to a study, boys associate math with their own gender while girls associate math with boys, this take roots as early as second grade. To uncover this national trend, we analyzed local research as well. The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is a standardized test administered to public schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Students in grades 3-8 are assessed in reading skills, mathematics, and science. We used the scores from The School District of Philadelphia which resulted in the decision to focus on minorities, under-resourced and students from these grade levels (standardized testing begins in the 3rd grade).
