The Children's Oncology Group Foundation

The Children's Oncology Group Foundation The Foundation allows philanthropic funds from individual supporters and organizations to go directly to COG to fund its much needed research.

The Children’s Oncology Group Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that directs resources to support the Children's Oncology Group, which is the world's largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The Children’s Oncology Group Foundation enables COG's leadership, comprised of a team of doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and other allied professiona

ls, the ability to direct the resources raised for childhood cancer research to the areas of highest need and opportunity. In an era of rapid scientific discovery, this direct link allows COG researchers to respond quickly to new discoveries with the greatest potential to benefit children with cancer.

United by cancer research means working together across institutions, networks, and discoveries so progress never stops.

Following funding changes, COG stepped in to move Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium’s (PBTC) early phase trials to the Children’s Oncology Group’s Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trials Network (PEP-CTN). This move not only ensures the continuation of this important research, it will improve clinical trial development and expand access to pediatric brain tumor trials at more sites.

As pediatric brain tumor clinical trials transition from PBTC to PEP-CTN, one thing remains unchanged: researchers, institutions, and families are united by the shared mission to advance better treatments for children facing cancer.

This National Cancer Research Month, we’re reminded that progress is powered by collaboration.

“From the perspective of my 30-year career, I know intimately the kind of research COG is doing. COG has the greatest potential to impact kids with cancer here and now.” After decades as a pediatric oncologist and a COG member, Dr. Louie understands the importance of COG's work, as well as the research collaborations and funding needed to make these breakthroughs a reality. There is much more work to do, and Dr. Louie remains optimistic about the progress still ahead. That optimism is fueled by the meaningful work COG is doing every day.

Dr. Felgenhauer believes the best cancer care is usually the care that’s closest to home. COG’s broad member network helps ensure every child has access to the latest treatments, no matter where they live.

Many barriers can stand between a sick child and the care they need, and COG is working to eliminate them for every child.

May is National Cancer Research Month. This year, the American Association for Cancer Research is highlighting the theme “United by Cancer Research”. Throughout the month of May, COG will share stories that show how our global network brings together research experts and institutions to make pediatric oncology breakthroughs possible.

“Physicians at every COG site would be explaining to families that there was now a better drug – and how that would give families additional hope and relief.” - Dr. Sumit Gupta

In 2024, that became possible two years earlier than expected.
A clinical trial focused on treating the most common childhood cancer closed ahead of schedule, driven by rapid enrollment across the COG network.

That speed matters. B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a rapidly progressing cancer, and for children who are diagnosed, faster access to effective treatment can change outcomes.

This is what large-scale collaboration makes possible.

Since 1998, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has generously supported pediatric cancer research and the infrastructure that sustains it.

As a leading nonprofit funder in this space, the organization provided crucial early support for Project:EveryChild, enabling researchers worldwide to study pediatric cancers more deeply and develop more precise treatments.

“Support from Hyundai Hope on Wheels has played a vital role in building and maintaining the equipment, technology, and physical space needed to store biospecimens for research,” said COG Group Chair Douglas Hawkins, MD. “That infrastructure has paved the way for discoveries that are helping more kids survive cancer and grow up healthy.”

COG is grateful for our partnership and the incredible impact it has had on patients and families.

COG patients help advance research every day through their participation in clinical trials. Some patients go a step further—helping shape the protocols that guide future care.

Survivors like Jennifer bring lived experience into research design, ensuring that scientific rigor is matched with real-world relevance for patients and families.

Improving outcomes depends on building stronger protocols and a deeper understanding of the people they are designed to serve.

Read about Jennifer’s journey from patient to protocol coordinator:

We’ve had the privilege of sharing stories of survivorship, spotlighting pediatric cancer patients , like Nick Wilson and Alec Kupelian who are living full lives today because of...
