Our Foundation was honored to partner with the Philadelphia Fire Department and the Thomas Holme Elementary community for a meaningful day rooted in remembrance, education, and impact.

In honor of a beloved student, Fire Safety Day was held on what would have been their birthday—transforming loss into purpose by equipping students with life-saving fire prevention knowledge.

Firefighters spent the day inside classrooms across every grade level, leading hands-on lessons and giving students the opportunity to explore a fire truck up close—bringing safety education to life while strengthening the bond between first responders and the community they serve.

The day concluded with a heartfelt Appreciation Ceremony recognizing Engine Company 52, the team who responded to last year’s tragic fire. A generous donation was also made to the Foundation in the student’s name—ensuring their legacy will continue to support the safety and preparedness of others across Philadelphia.

This is what it means to Pay It Forward.

A powerful reminder that even in the hardest moments, community, compassion, and action can create lasting impact.

It was an extraordinarily exhausting morning for the Philadelphia Fire Department, with members responding to five fires, one of which went to three alarms, two others going to all-hands status, and three of which were simultaneous.

Firefighting and rescue operations become even more hazardous in freezing temperatures, so we’re immensely grateful for the partners who keep us safe and protected. In last night’s fires, we worked with OEM, L&I, Fleet, and more. Please keep our members and impacted neighbors in your thoughts today as they recover. Thank you to for your tireless work,

Great job to all the PFD companies and partner agencies who responded to this pier fire in South Philly on Tuesday. Thanks to teamwork and quick action, what could have been an even more dangerous situation was quelled and there were no hazardous chemical leaks. Thank you to all our partners for your constant support.

Today the PFD took part in the proud tradition of celebrating Benjamin Franklin’s birthday with the American Philosophical Society. They joined them for the march from Franklin Hall at APS to Ben’s grave at 5th and Arch in the Christ Church Burial Ground.

Want to celebrate with us? Join us tomorrow at in Old City at 11 a.m. There’s a ceremony and storytelling event as part of the “firstivals” which highlight all the great things that started right here in Philly - like the Union Fire Company.

(L-R) Fire Commissioner Jeff Thompson, Benjamin Franklin (who turns 320 tomorrow!), PFD Historian & Fireman’s Hall Curator Firefighter Brian Anderson, Executive Chief Daniel McCarty.

Community, burgers, and big hearts! 🍔🚒

The Philadelphia Fire Department Foundation was excited to help celebrate the grand opening of the newest Burger King at 411 Oregon Ave! Huge thanks to for welcoming us and for their generous $1,000 donation to support Philadelphia’s bravest.

Battalion Chief Brandon C. Wilson and hungry Uniformed Members from Engine 53 and ladder 27 were on hand to receive the check—and enjoy a well-earned Burger King lunch, too.

As a Foundation that runs entirely on donations, every gift—big or small—helps us support the firefighters, medics, and EMTs who serve our city every day. If you’re a business or corporate partner looking to make an impact, we’d love to connect. ❤️🔥

💥 Did you know?
Philadelphia has been protecting its communities since 1736—when America’s first volunteer fire company was founded right here in our city.
Established by Benjamin Franklin, this Philadelphia “first” sparked a legacy of service, courage, and community commitment that lives on in today’s firefighters. 🚒❤️

At the Philadelphia Fire Department Foundation, we’re proud to support the men and women who carry that tradition forward—while preserving the history that started it all.

Step back in time and experience where it began during the 52 Firsts Festival:

Heroes in action across Philly. 🚒
Today, firefighters rescued two people from a burning building in South Philly, then just hours later saved two more from a house collapse in Germantown. Yesterday, they pulled a person to safety from the Schuylkill River.

At the Philadelphia Fire Department Foundation, we’re proud to support the Uniformed Members from the who show up for our city—24/7/365.
