GEO Group and the Commissioners says this facility brings jobs to Clearfield County. Research on detention economies nationwide tells a different story: these facilities don’t revitalize rural communities, they just make them dependent on an industry built on human suffering.

This was made possible because communities organized under No Skook Detention and refused to stay quiet. But we’re not celebrating until we see an actual sale or transfer, PILOTs paid, and ICE’s appeal before the Environmental Hearing Board dropped.

$207 million of our tax dollars were already wasted on these purchases. DHS still has $240 billion and no plans to slow down.

Clearfield County Commissioners have a choice to make.

This fall, they can vote to end the contract that allows the Moshannon Valley Detention Center to continue detaining thousands of immigrants for profit—or they can renew it. GEO Group, the private prison corporation, gets $3.4 million dollars a month from this contract to continued detaining immigrants.

Behind every vote is a human being, a family, and a community waiting for justice.

Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro You have the power to Shut Down a detention center for unaccompanied minors, why have you done nothing for months?

The Abraxas child detention center in Morgantown PA has 20 years of physical and sexual abuse against children, and as of Oct. 2025 it is now also holding unaccompanied minors. It's time you resist ICE Governor, issue an emergency removal order on Abraxas NOW.

And use your power to take administrative actions and stop collaborating with ICE (data sharing and honoring ICE detainers) and expand protections to immigrant communities.

This is the right move from the Shapiro administration. But the solution here is to Shut Down Moshannon. Immigrant detention is always abusive, unjust and a waste of our tax dollars. We don't need more prisons, we need affordable education, housing and healthcare!

It's time for the Clearfield County Commissioners to end the ICE contracts at Moshannon and for Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania to Shut Down the Abraxas child detention center.

After living in the United States since childhood for over 20 years, he was suddenly detained and spent five and a half years in immigration detention, including the Moshannon Detention Center. When he was finally released, instead of being sent home, he was deported to Mexico—a country where he has no family, no support, and doesn't speak the language.

Originally from Haiti, he cannot return there because of the extreme violence, kidnappings, and instability caused by gangs. He even won CAT (Convention Against Torture) protection, which means returning to Haiti would put him at risk of being kidnapped or even killed. The situation in Haiti is so dangerous that going back simply isn't an option for him.

Now, he finds himself stranded in Mexico without citizenship, work papers, or a way to support himself. Every day is a struggle just to find food, clothing, and a safe place to sleep. He is completely alone, facing uncertainty and fear in a place that is unfamiliar and overwhelming. Despite all of this, he is trying to stay hopeful and find a way to survive.
