The Olde Philadelphia Club - Founded in 1926 Mobile The Olde Philadelphia Club is an African-American men's organization to bring professional and business men together in a social context. St.

Since most of the members from the club's inception to present were and continue to be civic leaders and entrepreneurs of civic based activity, the club chose to focus on social activity. This organization grew primarily from a group of men who attended St. Thomas Episcopal church located in center city at the time, currently located in Overbrook. Thomas is the first African-American Anglican chur

ch in this country established in 1787. The additional members were solicited from family members and extended family making the group a very tight knit and insular alliance. All members had to be born in Philadelphia, PA. The club grew from a standing membership of 30 to 60 and remains so today. Today the requirements for membership have been adjusted to include candidates who have lived in Philadelphia for 20 years or more. The founders needed an outlet to exchange views of the day and a formal structure to entertain their wives. This guideline remains the clubs structure today. It has also been distinguished by attracting the most notable African-American men in Philadelphia.
