After more than a decade of service, the Philadelphia Furniture Bank will fully cease operations on June 30. We will continue to serve our current member agencies throughout the closing process.
Over the past 12 years, we partnered with 121 nonprofits to furnish more than 10,000 homes, supporting over 22,000 individuals and families. This includes people exiting homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, families in reunification, individuals with disabilities, and others navigating major life transitions.
To make this work possible, we intentionally kept costs low for our partners and their clients, relying on philanthropy and government partnerships to cover the gap. Recent changes to federal funding, including the loss of the Emergency Housing Voucher program, have significantly impacted those partnerships and increased competition for private funding. This led to the incredibly difficult decision to close.
While this chapter is coming to an end, we are deeply grateful to the partners, supporters, and staff who made this work possible. Together, we helped thousands of families turn empty spaces into homes.
