Today marks the start of Fire Prevention Week, which runs through October 10th. This year, Fire Prevention Week focuses on reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires by adjusting everyday charging habits.

Abington's League of Women Voters ran a voter registration drive at Abington Senior High School earlier this week - first, League members visited classrooms to encourage eligible students to vote, and sharing information on how to be poll workers. Remember, if you're a US Citizen who will be 18 by November 3, you can register to vote in this year's election - the deadline is October 19!

Students in Abington Education Association member Galeet Cohen's Honors Biology classes spent time outside in class to do field studies - investigating the galls (those little lumpy growths triggered by wasps laying eggs) that appear on oak leaves this time of year. The students isolated a research question and gathered data samples to produce reliable results.

Bensalem High School alumna Nicole Henry, a world-renowned, award-winning jazz vocalist, performed the National Anthem before a Friday night football game in September. What a treat for the spectators!

Today is Custodians, Facilities, and Maintenance Workers Appreciation Day. We are grateful for the work of these staffers, who keep our schools clean and running efficiently, so students can have a safe space to learn.
