We crashed a party last night. While Vanguard rented out Cherry Street Pier for a national employee event, we showed up to remind them: Vanguard’s investments are actively harming communities and ecosystems. We're calling on employees to help chart a different path away from the immense damage caused by their company's investment practices.

To that end, we passed out flyers to employees as they entered the party encouraging them to speak up about Vanguard’s obligation to use their investment power responsibly and displayed banners on the pier parallel to the party.

If you’d like to get involved in planning non-violent direct actions like this one check out the links in our bio.

We have exciting announcements and fond farewells:

After a combined 20 years with EQAT in different capacities both Eve Guttman and Lina Blount are ending their staff roles at EQAT this month. Lina led countless meetings, trainings, and actions, guiding groups to learn, experiment, and reflect, building up generations of EQATers. She’s now moving back to the west coast to be closer to family and will continue working in strategic campaigning.

Eve supported groups to do impressive research, increased the coverage and reach of our work, and did it all with an eye to inviting volunteers to take the next step in their skills and leadership. Interested in chaplaincy, Eve is starting rabbinical school later this month.

These departures have been many months in the making, allowing EQAT to prepare well for this moment. To that end, Striff Striffolino has started a new role as EQAT’s Operations Director after almost four years on staff.

And we’re excited to introduce Sandra Telep as EQAT’s new Campaign Director! Sandra comes to EQAT with a wealth of experience in leadership development, facilitation, sustaining partnerships, and developing shared strategy. Sandra most recently served as the Deputy Director of Civic Engagement at Pennsylvania Voice and as the Executive Director of Philadelphia Family Pride. Beyond her impressive experience, Sandra brings a relational approach to organizing, a grounding in joy and hope during these challenging times, and a love of song. She sings with Rise Choir and Singing Resistance Philly. EQAT welcomes her spirit, leadership, and wisdom into our community.

We hope you will join us in congratulating Striff on their new position and welcoming Sandra to EQAT!

The road ahead is full of possibility. We’re excited for what’s ahead for EQAT and we can’t wait to continue strengthening our connections, sharpening our skills, and working towards a more just and joyful world – together.

We greeted Vanguard employees outside their annual “Partnership Day” celebration. With our voices and our instruments, we expressed: Vanguard’s investments are actively harming communities and ecosystems. We're calling on employees to chart a different path away from the immense damage caused by their company's investment practices.

If you joined us that day, keep an eye out for yourself in the video! And if you didn't, you can feel as if you were there with us!

Why were we there? Vanguard’s bankrolling of polluting corporations has consequences from the Gulf to the Delaware – and many, many other places. A report released by Friends of the Earth U.S., Center for International Environmental Law, Break Free From Plastic, and more the day before showed that Vanguard is the largest investor in the 34 key petrochemical expansion projects in the US, which are expected to emit 98,000,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually – more than the national emissions of Colombia or Belgium!

So, what can we do now?

Have you heard? There's a growing effort of organizations, foundations, and other institutions moving their money out of Vanguard because of its investments in private prison corporations profiting off immigrant surveillance, detention, and deportation. If your workplace retirement plan is with Vanguard, you can take action! Ask your employer to ! Go to DropVanguard.org for resources and tools.
