As Break Free From Plastic, Center for International Environmental Law, Friends of the Earth U.S., People Over Petro, and Texas Campaign for the Environment were releasing new research showing that Vanguard invests💰$182 billion💰 in 🏭the buildout of 34 major petrochemical expansion projects🏭 we went with American Friends Service Committee, CRCQL - Delco Environmental Justice, and RISE ST. JAMES to Vanguard's offices to say 🚫no more financing of polluting petrochemicals🚫

Our action at Vanguard was covered in MyChesCo, and CRCQL's Nolan and EQAT's Eve got to talk about our work on WURD Radio. You can read and listen to all of it at https://eqat.org/eqat-in-the-news/

EQAT joined CRCQL - Delco Environmental Justice's Environmental Justice Day march! It was good to walk and chant and bear witness alongside others. We'll keep resisting the deadly frontline impacts of pollution, we'll keep following the money and pushing the financiers to do better, and we'll keep fighting for the futures we deserve.

📢 Reworld new name, same old polluting game

This is what drivers saw on a series of signs one after another as they passed through the neighborhood of Vanguard President and CIO, Greg Davis, and approached beautiful Chanticleer Garden.

We appointed ourselves "Earth Day ambassadors" and spoke to visitors in the garden about Vanguard's destructive investments in the corporations poisoning people, fueling extreme weather, and threatening all of our futures. Dozens of people wrote postcards to Davis, which we're sending off in the mail.

Highlights included talking to Vanguard customers, a Vanguard employee, and ✨a personal friend of Greg Davis✨ Glad to know that Davis will be hearing about our visit from multiple sources!

Vanguard is the #1 toxic investor, investing $182 billion in 34 major petrochemical expansion projects in the U.S. 🤢 As this research was being released nationally and shared in a press conference in TX, we went to Vanguard’s HQ in PA to bring the research and our demands to its front door.

With allies from the Delaware River (CRCQL - Delco Environmental Justice!) to the Gulf South (RISE ST. JAMES!) and in between (American Friends Service Committee!), we marched, we spoke out, and we tried to hand deliver a letter to Vanguard signed by 30,188 people (collected by Friends of the Earth U.S.). Vanguard refused to accept the letter in person, so we later sent it off in the mail. 📬

These petrochemical corporations, like ExxonMobil and Formosa Plastics, are selling us a bill of goods. We don't actually need the majority of their end products, like single use plastics, and they're not good for us. 🚯 There are healthier materials we can use instead, but the petrochemical industry lobbies and secures financing to keep us trapped in a toxic loop. We’re calling on Vanguard to turn the ship around from toxic investor to truly responsible steward of its customers’ futures.

On Tuesday, Break Free From Plastic, Center for International Environmental Law, Friends of the Earth U.S., Gulf South Fossil Finance Hub, People Over Petro, and Texas Campaign for the Environment released new research that Vanguard invests $182 billion in 34 major petrochemical expansion projects. These facilities are expected to emit 98,000,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually – more than the national emissions of Colombia or Belgium! 🇨🇴 🇧🇪

On Wednesday, American Friends Service Committee, CRCQL - Delco Environmental Justice, Earth Quaker Action Team, RISE ST. JAMES, and dozens of our friends went to Vanguard’s headquarters. We sang, we spoke out, and we attempted to deliver a letter signed by 30,188 people – but Vanguard wouldn’t even accept it. 📣 🪧

So, what can we do?

Fenceline communities are organizing to fight back and hold financial institutions accountable for their role in this preventable pollution crisis. We know that healthy investment in our communities is possible!
