I demand that all charges against Chloe Freeman be dropped immediately and unconditionally. Every UAW member, every worker, and every young person should demand the same.

My name is Will Lehman, I work at Mack Trucks in Macungie, Pennsylvania, and I'm a rank-and-file candidate for president of the United Auto Workers union.

Chloe Freeman is a registered nurse who worked at Trinity Health in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In May, Border Patrol agents chased a Mexican worker through the city. He tripped, smashed his face on the pavement, and was taken to her hospital bleeding. While he was alone in the CT room, Chloe took out his IV and walked him out the ambulance entrance. She told investigators she didn't agree with ICE tearing families apart. Now the Trump administration is prosecuting her and she faces up to a year in federal prison.

This is a political vendetta. The message is, defend an immigrant and you'll be treated like a criminal.

This is part of the biggest assault on immigrant workers in American history. Hundreds of thousands have been detained and deported. ICE arrested about 51,000 people in July alone. Nearly $250 billion has been handed to ICE and the Border Patrol, including $45 billion for detention camps where men, women, and children are held without charges.

Though this is occurring, people are fighting back. 100,000 marched in Minneapolis. Neighbors are confronting raids in city after city. More than $30,000 has been raised for her defense. Working people are coming to an understanding that an attack on immigrants is an attack on all of us.

The same police state methods are being prepared for any worker who strikes, protests, or speaks out against war and dictatorship. We cannot count on the political establishment or the union bureaucracies which sabotage the call for a general strike in Minneapolis and has done nothing to defend our immigrant brothers and sisters.

Healthcare workers, form rank-and-file committees in your hospitals to protect your patients and co-workers from ICE. Auto workers, nurses and all workers in every industry must unite to stop the raids and deportations. Defend Chloe Freeman and drop the charges now.

Drop all charges against nurse Chloe Freeman!

Chloe Freeman is a registered nurse in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On the night of May 28, Border Patrol agents chased a Mexican worker through Ann Arbor, and he was taken to the hospital bleeding from his nose and forehead. Hours later, while he was alone in the CT room, Freeman took out his IV and walked him out through the ambulance entrance. For that, federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against her, and she now faces up to a year in federal prison.

This is a political vendetta, meant to warn every nurse, doctor, teacher and worker that anyone who defends immigrants will be treated like a criminal. Thousands of people have already rallied to her defense.

I call on UAW members and workers everywhere to come to Chloe Freeman’s defense. Health care workers should form rank-and-file committees to protect their patients and coworkers from ICE. Drop the charges now!

Supporters of my campaign for UAW president brought its message to workers at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP), the Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP), and the Metalsa auto parts plant in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, south of Louisville. The campaign team spoke to workers on the overnight and morning shift changes. Campaign volunteers distributed literature and held extended discussions with workers about safety, the sellout of retiree healthcare, and the need to form rank-and-file committees.

Supporters of Will Lehman’s campaign spoke with workers at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant, the Louisville Assembly Plant and the Metalsa parts plant about unsafe jobs, the theft of retiree healthcare, two deaths at Metalsa, and a union apparatus workers say is “in bed with the company.”

I'm running for president of the United Auto Workers against an apparatus that spent $107 million last year on the salaries of its own staff. My campaign has no staff, no dues money, and no institutional backing. What it has is what UAW members put into it.

Stellantis is moving to permanently close the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, eliminating 2,200 jobs and threatening thousands more in auto parts. More than 1,000 jobs on the third shift at Windsor Assembly are also at risk.

UAW President Shawn Fain hailed the shift of Jeep Compass production from Brampton to Belvidere as a “major victory for UAW members.” Unifor is calling for stronger Canadian counter-tariffs. The two union bureaucracies are lining up behind their own governments, fighting over which country’s workers keep their jobs.

This is not a defense of American workers. It is a declaration of war on Canadian workers. There is no such thing as an “American” or a “Canadian” car.

What is needed is a strike organized by the workers themselves through rank-and-file committees, appealing directly to Stellantis workers in the United States and Mexico. No plant closures, no job cuts, anywhere. Defend every job. Unite across borders.

The working class has no country.
