Clementine Tindano is an ophthalmologist in Bobo-Dioulasso, a city approximately 50 miles from Konkourona. She learned about the commitment being made to education and healthcare in the community and she wanted to dedicate some of her time to help. She is currently traveling to Konkourona once per month and providing care at a greatly reduced rate to what she would receive by seeing patients in Bobo-Dioulasso....

Millogo Sibiri, one of the members who participated in the training, is the leader of their group. They greatly appreciated this period of awareness-raising during which they visited several households to inform families about the use of drinking water. Even the elderly encouraged him to persevere in this endeavor. As for them, they are happy and pray to God for a population more motivated to embrace the path of sustainable development for Konkourona.

Tomorrow is a big day for Sabine -

This is Sabine (32), who is from Konkourona and is married with three children (15, 10, and 7 months). Connecting people in need in Burkina Faso, Africa with those who are willing to help...

I wake up every day feeling incredibly thankful for the opportunities I have been given. I have a cozy bed in a temperature controlled house that I love, an indoor bathroom, clean water, a warm shower, clean clothes, a wide variety of fresh and healthy foods, a reliable car, meaningful work, immediate access to healthcare, electricity, books and information...the list goes on and on. So much of this was made possible through high quality education I received, which opened so many doors for me to create a life that is wonderful beyond my wildest dreams. Most significantly, I can support my precious daughters as they work to create their best lives.

I remember the day I learned that not everyone was so fortunate. It was the early 1980’s and there was a Save the Children segment on TV about a famine in Ethiopia. I cried as I watched images of starving mothers holding their starving children with no way to stop their agonizing decline and eventual death. It was so hard to reconcile how I could have so much while children were dying of dehydration, starvation, and disease. I wondered what I could do to help. Since then, I have financially supported a variety of causes, primarily focused on education. It felt good to do something, but I could never be sure how much it really helped.

I traveled with a colleague, Dr. Jules Millogo (Jules), to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia early in 2019 to work with international organizations on a mechanism to facilitate quick approval of a new vaccine. There is a lot of development in progress in Addis Ababa, offering tremendous hope for the future. There are also people who are struggling more than any I have ever seen in my life. Many live outside with no home, drink water from the creek running through the city that people bathe and wash their clothes in, and look for odd jobs or beg for food or money on the streets. Many children are not in school but are instead doing everything they can to survive, shining shoes, offering tours, selling candy, gum and ci******es, fighting for one meal at a time, trying to get through each day. I could not just do nothing and return home to my comfortable life.

While in Ethiopia, my colleague, Jules, told me stories about what it was like when he grew up in Konkourona, Burkina Faso, and what it is like there now (read more at www.konkourona.org). He talked about how he escaped poverty and what he is doing to lift others out, one by one. It was there that a partnership was created. At first, I considered how many more people could be helped if I started working with Jules, but then I considered what the impact could be if you joined us and we all worked together. The possibilities are endless! So, please join us in our mission to support development of the people in one small village in Burkina Faso, Africa.
