Yeshua's House

Yeshua's House ~YESHUA'S HOUSE, Where abused women and children love, laugh and live again.~ Statistics say that abused women return to the home of the abuser seven times.

Many will remain with them until death—natural or otherwise. The latest report released by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia stated that one in every five Virginia homicides resulted from violence by an intimate partner in 2005. Yeshua’s House of Refuge is located in the tri-city area. The home is designed to combat the reasons women return to abusers even after experiencing the

support given by a transitional home. We do not promote an institutional atmosphere, but strive to truly be a Home, to give time and space for healing, to actively engage families in growing together and learning the joy of making quality decisions through the strength of self-discipline. Yeshua’s House of Refuge is designed to meet the needs of mothers and especially their preschool children in a faith-based environment.

“I will now rise up,” says HASHEM, “and grant security to those whom they scorn.”—Psalm 12:6

Sonja Holt-Cartwright, founder of Second Chance at Renewing Self, Inc. (SCARS), which focused on women recovering from abuse, has closed SCARS after nearly 18 years and has donated its proceeds to Yeshua's House. We thank God for $19,879.51. We will be determining how best to use this gift in preparing for our second home.

Sonja's next step as a leadership strategist was to open Restorative Pathways to help individuals and organizations navigate burnout, transition and growth.

It's been a month of heavenly windows opening. Thank God for adoptions! Rocky Branch Baptist in Sutherland, VA is our faithful partner, and they regularly bless us. This "Rock Nation" Church held a supply drive for Yeshua's House, and this is the result.

I just finished reading "Strangers" by Belle Burden on my way home from the beach.

What started as a casual summer read quickly became something more.

While I couldn't relate to the world of Harvard educations, hedge fund wealth, and international travel, I found myself relating to something much deeper: the questions that often follow the end of a marriage.

Was it my fault?

What did I do wrong?

Who am I now?

And perhaps the hardest question of all:

Am I enough on my own?

One of the things that struck me most about Belle's story was her realization that some questions simply don't have answers. The search for an explanation can become its own form of grief.

As I read, I couldn't help but think about the women I work with every day—women rebuilding after divorce, questioning their worth, and learning to use their voices again.

I shared a few reflections from the book, including why I think so many women are afraid to speak up and what I hope our daughters learn from watching us navigate life's hardest seasons.

I'd love to know: Have you ever read a book that felt like it was written just for you at exactly the right time?
