ReLeaf Petaluma

ReLeaf Petaluma To engage the community to plant and steward native trees and shrubs to improve the environmental health of the Petaluma Watershed.

Our vision is a Petaluma Valley and Watershed where native trees and shrubs thrive, enriching our lives by providing native wildlife with shelter and habitat, our ecosystem rich biodiversity, our river with soil-stabilizing riparian plant systems, and our community with a cooling tree canopy. We see a community in which biodiversity is venerated and where trees are respected for the benefits, they

provide to all of the planet’s life cycle. By doing so, we can conceive of a community which actively stewards the health of native plant species, rewarding us by actively participating in the health of our planet.

ReLeaf stewards its trees for three years after planting to assure their success, and it takes a lot of volunteers to get the work done. Three wonderful people volunteered their Memorial Day morning to care for ReLeaf trees at Bond Park. Thank you for helping Petaluma's canopy grow!

ReLeaf Petaluma planted 249 new trees at Petaluma residences between October and December. It hasn't been raining, so please check to see if your tree needs water. Any doubt? Just water. In the Winter months, extra water can't hurt your tree.

ReLeaf Petaluma partnered with City of Petaluma Parks and Recreation to plant much needed shade trees at the Petaluma Community Sports Fields. Our AmeriCorps NCCC team planted Western Sycamore, Coast Live Oak and Valley Oak in the parking lot finger islands. Afterwards, Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery hosted the team for a Lunch and Learn with their tree expert David Teuschler. We learned about Devil Mountain's special way of growing trees in air root pruning Pioneer Pots, which make their trees extra healthy and ready for transplant.

This , please consider donating to ReLeaf Petaluma, as we work towards our 10,000-tree goal for communities that need them most.

We are now nearing our 2000th tree planted! We are a small-budget Petaluma nonprofit with big dreams powered by dedicated supporters all across town. In the past few months, we kicked off a new Residential Tree Program, giving away free trees and planting services to Petalumans for their yards. This will increase our shared tree canopy by over 200 trees in neighborhoods all over town. We are also working on planting 120 trees at a significant open space located in the Denman Reach and dozens of trees in other public spaces. And that is just our November-December program!

All of this success is due to the support of our community. Consider a donation to ReLeaf this in your year-end giving:

ReLeaf's AmeriCorps NCCC team experienced city policy making in action last Wednesday during the Tree Advisory Committee meeting and the Recreation, Music & Parks Commission meeting. ReLeaf presented Updates and Planting Plans for 20204-2025, and the AmeriCorp spoke about their program and thanked the City, ReLeaf, and Rebuilding Together Petaluma for the opportunity to improve the community through the planting of trees. They have so far planted 104 residential trees and 29 trees at La Tercera Elementary School.

Beat the heat under a shade tree! These temperature readings were taken by a parent at Grant Elementary School today at 2:30PM. The ambient temperature was a very hot 97 degrees, making the black top a whopping 128 degrees. The ground under the shade tree was a much more comfortable 83 degrees. Growing and protecting our urban tree canopy is a huge win for our community.
