The members of the Perryville Police FOP wish to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Mayor Linkey, Commissioner Taylor, Commissioner Snelling, Commissioner Hall, Commissioner Jeric, and town administrator George Patchell.
At this evening’s town hall meeting, the board voted unanimously to adopt a defined benefit pension plan for town employees, including the police department. Since the police department’s inception in 2004, officers have worked without a structured pension plan. This is a standard benefit that most law enforcement organizations provide their personnel and is crucial for long term retention and recruitment of quality police officers. In 22 years, 29 officers have come through our doors and departed to other agencies for better pay, better benefits, and better opportunities. As the call volume and operational tempo for the department continues to climb, the importance of maintaining a professional, well-trained, highly capable workforce cannot be ignored.
Tonight, the elected board, supported by the town administrator, made a decision that will help the department remain competitive, attract experienced officers, and retain our existing staff for years to come. We thank them for their continued support and more importantly, their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our town residents.
