This Christmas, the Taylor County Historical Society Christmas Light Committee, in partnership with the City of Perry and community volunteers, is inviting everyone to help “Light Up Perry” in celebration of Taylor County’s 170th anniversary.

Our goal is to bring warmth, light and Christmas spirit to downtown Perry while beginning a collection of decorations that can be reused and expanded for years to come.

Plans include approximately 46 lighted wreaths, more than 1,270 feet of lighted garland and additional decorations as resources allow. We also hope to brighten vacant storefronts so that the entire downtown feels welcoming and festive during the Christmas season.

The decorations purchased for this project will belong to the Taylor County Historical Society and will be stored and reused in future years. The City of Perry is supporting the effort with staff, equipment and assistance with installation.

Community members, businesses, churches and civic organizations are invited to help by purchasing needed decorations, making a donation or volunteering. We estimate that the first phase of the project can be completed for under $15,000.

Our goal is to have materials purchased by mid-November so installation can be completed before the Dec. 4 Christmas parade and downtown celebration.

Every wreath, donation and helping hand brings us closer to creating a brighter Christmas in downtown Perry.
