Aurthur Mae Perkins Scholarship

Many Peorians recognize the name, if not the face, of local educator Aurthur Mae Perkins. A retired Peoria Public Schools teacher and principal, Ms. Perkins has also actively fulfilled the roles of mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, volunteer and community leader. Having put her own education on hold to raise her family, she obtained her GED at the age of thirty eight and then went on to achieve both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. She continued to excel in the field of education, serving Peoria Public Schools as principal of Harrison School and upon her retirement, became Peoria Public Schools’ longest serving principal. She has received many recognitions and awards for her service, but perhaps her greatest award is the lives touched by her faith, her commitment, and her perseverance in education. In honor of Aurthur Mae Perkins’ lifelong quest to recognize the true potential in others, Moonlight Coalition for Adult Learning is proud to present the Aurthur Mae Perkins Scholarship to the student, aged thirty five or older, who scored the highest cumulative score on GED exams during the past year.
