St. Paul Conference home visitors met with a young man who has been caring for his siblings since their father passed away six years ago. His hours at work were reduced to part-time, limiting his income. His sister is in job training, while the youngest sibling is in high school and active in sports.
The family requested help with a past-due electric bill, which St. Paul Conference paid to keep their power on. We offered budget advice, recommended job-search resources at ESCAROSA, and suggested contacting Social Security about potential survivor benefits they did not know existed. Although they may be filing late, there is still hope the youngest may qualify for assistance.
Many people are unaware of the benefits available to them. These benefits must be sought out and applied for. Networking with other agencies and making referrals are often the best way we can provide assistance.
The Manna food box was much appreciated, and prayer left the family hopeful. We are truly impressed by this young man and the way he has accepted responsibility for his family.
