All cleanups for this weekend are canceled!

Until damage assessment is finished by city and county officials we do not have access to all of our parks and public spaces. We will be back at our cleanups once assessments are done and they give approval for the parks to be used.

We encourage you to check on our other local nonprofits that have a physical facility that might need cleanup help!

🎵I'm still standin'🎵

We aren't sure how the others are doing but the Dog Park West trash bag box is standing strong after Hurricane Isaias! We aren't allowed to use concrete for these posts so they are just buried 3 feet in the sand. Porter sure secured his materials together like a pro, didn't he? Way to go 👏👏

We aren't really sure what our weekend cleanups will look like so look for an update on that by Thursday. Some Pensacola parks may be closed or unreachable. If you know about damage to Jones Creek by Navy Blvd, Bartram Park, or Wayside Park please let us know in the comments!

While you're out taking care of limbs and tree debris, please remember to grab the smaller stuff too! There's a lot of debris everywhere. Some of it is natural and some of it is not.

True - there are litter boxes on Pensacola Beach ready for your use!

Friday Fun Fact!

Have you spotted one of Pensacola Beach’s “litter boxes”?

These special boxes are stocked with paper bags so beachgoers can grab a bag, pick up litter they find, and help keep the beach beautiful. There are currently 12 along the beach!

A small cleanup can make a big difference.

We are all in hurricane prep mode but would like to remind everyone to please secure your outdoor belongings so your stuff doesn't become marine debris! Chairs, furniture, lawn equipment, trash cans, buckets, plants - if it's outside it might be gone once the storm rolls through, especially if you're anywhere the storm surge reaches.

Follow up to the Bayou Texar is Orange story from Pensacola News Journal

On Monday, October 5, PPBEP notified FDEP of reported turbidity issues in Carpenter Creek and Bayou Texar. Escambia County was already onsite assessing impacts to the Creek.

FDEP completed an inspection of the Florida Department of Transportation's I-10 at Highway 29 construction project and issued corrective actions to DOT's contractor. Corrections were ordered to be made by Thursday, October 8th ahead of the forecasted tropical weather expected this weekend.

State agency projects, including those funded and administered by DOT, require the same level of permitting compliance and oversight as projects privately implemented or administered by local governments. Both FDEP and the Water Management District are applying that same standard to DOT and their contractors.

PPBEP, the City of Pensacola, and Escambia County are actively working together to restore Carpenter Creek, specifically between I-110 and 12th Avenue. Excessive sedimentation and turbidity have plagued Carpenter Creek and downstream Bayou Texar for decades, leading to degraded water quality and loss of habitat.

"In order to achieve the goals of not only the Carpenter Creek Restoration Project, but to have fishable and swimmable waters for all, we need all of our industries to step up and enhance their standard of care when working around our sensitive natural resources. This was a preventable outcome, and we need everyone working together to prevent issues like this from happening in the future', said Matt Posner, Executive Director.
