Hey guys, this is Bri! I’m one of the admin’s for Spay and Neuter- America and work alongside shelters. I’m looking for a temporary foster for a sweet male cat that has been wondering my apartment complex. The foster would be until I can get it into the shelter I have lined up (please message for more details). I am going to be searching for a reliable and trustworthy foster!! Unfortunately, my cat is FIV & FHV positive and NOT cat friendly, so there is no way we can house him. He would be a temporary foster, and when all set, he will be in the shelter. He is very friendly, but very thin and food motivated. As needed I can provide his initial flea tick treatment, dewormer, a crate to separate him from other animals in the home, a carrier, and potentially food if needed. Please message me if interested, or if you know anyone willing to foster !!

It took almost a week but we have now messaged every person (except 35 individuals who we were unable to message due to them no longer having facebook or no longer following our page, etc.)
the following:

🚨 Attention‼️ 🚨

If you had a cat microchipped through us you need to read this. If you have any pet microchipped we recommend you read.

We recently learned the previous link we sent to everyone to register the microchip does not register with the most commonly used NATIONAL database. It only registers with their database. This means if your pet is scanned for a chip then the chip number is entered into the national database your info will not come. The odds the people scanning the chip will try every database there is - not good. You want to be registered in the most commonly used National database.

What you need to do: You will need to register again (still free) through this link. You can pay for additional services but you do NOT have to pay anything just to register.

It will take 24 hours to update once you register using PetPlace/PetWatch. Let us know if you have any questions. Again this is free. This can also be used with any microchip if you have other pets you want to register too.

Pics in comments are the 35 people who we could not message incase someone knows them to tag them.

24Petwatch by PetPlace is North America’s largest microchip registry. Register your pet’s microchip for free, report lost pets & explore pet protection services.

Just reminding every one we no longer offer our transports. This service was offered when there was not a local low cost spay/neuter clinic. There is two now clinics in Milton.

Our volunteers have had great success using this local low cost spay/neuter clinic. Please give them a call! They are open Monday through Thursday. They do not have income requirements or anything like that. They offer vaccines at a low cost with spay/neuter surgery.

The other option is through Ahope animal rescue as they also opened a clinic in Milton. They offer routine annual services in addition to low cost spay/neuter.

Another option is through Pensacola Foster kittens - they have a transport program for low cost spay & neuter for the out of town clinics. This group tends to have the shortest waitlist. They do both owned kitties and community cats.

For dogs reach out to Amazing Grace Rescue as they do transports for dogs to the clinic in Mississippi.

SHE IS DEAD. THEY ARE NOT. 🚗🐀

It is Pouch Season (Late Feb - March). You see an Opossum hit by a car on the side of the road. You keep driving. "It's too late," you think.

Turn around.

The Opossum is North America's only Marsupial. That means the mother is just a vehicle; the babies are passengers in a safe, warm "External Womb." The mother can be gone, but the 13 babies inside her pouch are often perfectly healthy, waiting to be saved.

Here is the science of "The Pouch Check":

1. The Survival Capsule 🛡️ Opossum babies are born the size of a honeybee. They live inside the pouch for months. The pouch is insulated, fur-lined, and tough. It acts like a crash helmet and an incubator. Babies can survive for hours inside a deceased mother.

2. The "Ni**le Lock" (DO NOT PULL) ⚠️ This is the most important rule. When a baby opossum latches on, the ni**le swells inside its mouth to keep it from falling out. They are physically locked on. If you try to pull them out, you will rip their mouths open and kill them. The Protocol:

Move the mother’s body to safety (wear gloves!).

Check the belly. If you feel lumps or see movement in the pouch...

Do not remove the babies.

Put the whole mother in a box or towel.

Drive to a Wildlife Rehabber. Let them surgically detach the babies.

3. The "Pink" Check 🕵️‍♀️ If the babies are pink and moving, they are alive. If they are grey and cold, it has been too long. But in February, the cold air preserves the babies longer than in summer. It is always worth a look.

One stop can save 13 lives.

📌 Quick FAQ
Q: Won't she bite me? A: Make sure she is dead. ☠️ Poke the rear leg with a stick first. If there is no reflex, she is gone. Opossums "play dead" (catatonia) when scared, but a road-hit animal usually shows other signs of trauma.

Q: Is it illegal to transport them? A: Technically, maybe. 🚓 In some states, transporting wildlife is restricted. However, if you are driving directly to a licensed rehabber or vet, you are usually covered under "Good Samaritan" protocols. Call the rehabber first; they will tell you what to do.

Q: Can I raise them? A: No. 🚫 Baby opossums require a specialized tube-feeding diet (their stomachs are tiny). Cow's milk kills them. They also suffer from Metabolic Bone Disease (rickets) if they don't get massive amounts of calcium. They need a pro.
