PENSACOLA, Fla. — Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola’s main gate is open.

NAS Pensacola is closed to public visitation.

At 8:47 a.m. NAS Pensacola Navy Security Forces (NSF) responded to a security incident resulting in the installation’s gates being closed.

NAS Pensacola will cooperate with local law enforcement partners as they conduct an investigation.

NAS Pensacola remains committed to the safety and security of the service members, their families and the civilian employees working onboard the installation.

With the news breaking today, I know some of you may be feeling unsettled — and some of you may not. Either way, I want to offer a gentle (and totally unsolicited) reminder from a place of readiness, not fear.

One of the best things we can do as leadership spouses is quietly encourage preparedness in our communities.

If you have the opportunity, please remind your command spouses to:

• Ensure their Powers of Attorney are current and reflect their family’s needs
• Check military ID expiration dates (for themselves and their dependents)
• Confirm wills and other estate documents are up to date

This isn’t about being alarmist. It’s about being steady.

We live in a world where things can change quickly. Preparedness brings peace. When documents are squared away, families can focus on what actually matters instead of scrambling through paperwork during stressful moments.

I would always rather be the slightly “naggy big sister” who encouraged readiness than watch someone flounder because no one thought to mention it.

Lead calmly. Share wisely. Encourage readiness.

Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola will resume public visitation Feb. 4.
During normal operating hours, areas of public interest onboard NAS Pensacola can be accessed daily from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. through the West Gate at the south end of Blue Angel Parkway.
All visitors must have a government-issued REAL ID or U.S. passport to access the air station.

Due to a lapse in government funding, beginning Feb. 1 Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola’s areas of public interest are closed until further notice. Installation areas of public interest – including the National Naval Aviation Museum (NNAM) and the National Parks Service’s Fort Barrancas – are closed until further notice.

Main Gate close tomorrow.

Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola's Main Gate, at the south end of Navy Blvd., is scheduled to close to inbound and outbound traffic Jan. 19 from 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. All inbound and outbound traffic should plan to access the air station through the West Gate, at the south end of Blue Angel Parkway, during the closure. Individuals planning to visit A.C. Read Golf Course or Barrancas National Cemetery should plan to apply for a pass at the Visitor Control Center by Jan. 18.
