For toddlers, play isn't “just play.”

It's a chance to practice thinking, problem-solving, language, movement and more.

Try simple activities like:

🧩 Putting together a simple puzzle
🔷 Matching shapes
📚 Reading a book
👀 Finding objects around the house

You don't need expensive toys or a complicated activity. Your time and attention are what matter.

"What did you do today?"

By age 4, many children can tell you about at least one thing that happened during their day. It might be as simple as, "I played soccer," or "We had pizza for lunch!"

These little stories are more than just cute conversations. When your child talks about their day, they're practicing putting thoughts into words, remembering what happened, and beginning to tell events in order.

You can encourage this skill by asking simple questions about their day, sharing stories about your own day, or looking at pictures together and talking about what happened.

Keep the conversation going! Those everyday chats are helping your child build important communication skills. 💙

All children develop differently; however, if you have any developmental concerns, bring them up to your child's pediatrician or contact a Help Me Grow Escambia care coordinator at 850-378-0322 or through our website at www.helpmegrowescambia.org, who will be able to connect you to necessary resources.

Milestones aren’t just first words and first steps.

They’re the skills children learn as they grow - how they move, communicate, learn, play, and interact with others.

Keeping an eye on milestones can help you know when your child is on track and when they may need a little extra help.

A free developmental screening from Help Me Grow Escambia can help you see how your child is doing now and what to watch for next.

“I do it!”

If you've got a toddler, you've probably heard it. A LOT. 😂

But that growing independence is an important part of development.

Let your toddler help with simple things like getting dressed or feeding themselves. They may make a mess. They may take forever. But they're also practicing new skills.

Give them safe chances to try, explore and learn.

Want to know more about how your child is developing? Help Me Grow Escambia offers FREE developmental screenings to help families understand their child's skills.

Happy ! 💙

At 3 years old, your child may be ready to string large beads, pasta, or other safe objects onto a string.

It might look like simple play, but there’s a lot happening in those little hands! As children pick up, hold, aim, and thread each item, they are practicing the small movements and coordination they’ll continue using as they grow.

Try making it fun by offering different shapes, sizes, or colors. You can talk about the colors, count the pieces, or even create a simple pattern together.

The best part? Your child is learning while having fun - and probably has no idea they’re working on an important developmental skill. 😊

All children develop differently; however, if you have any developmental concerns, bring them up to your child's pediatrician or contact a Help Me Grow Escambia care coordinator at 850-378-0322 or through our website at www.helpmegrowescambia.org, who will be able to connect you to necessary resources.

Your toddler may only say a few words - but those little words are building blocks for language.

When your child says a word, add to it. If they say “baba,” you might say, “Yes! That’s your bottle.”

Talk about what you see, what you're doing, and what your child is interested in. Everyday conversations are learning opportunities.

And if you're wondering whether your child's communication skills are on track, Help Me Grow Escambia offers FREE developmental screenings for children ages birth to 8. Contact us today.

Happy !

At 30 months, your child is becoming a little problem-solver. You may notice them figuring out how things work, trying different ways to do something, or wanting to do more on their own.

You can help build those skills through everyday moments:

🧩 Give them simple challenges and let them try to figure things out before stepping in.
🧩 Let them make choices during play and daily routines, like choosing a book or deciding which toy to use.
📚 Read stories together and talk about what the characters could do when they face a problem.

Little moments of trying, thinking, and figuring things out are all part of learning and growing!

Every milestone is a chance to learn something new about your child's development. If you ever have questions about how your child is growing, Help Me Grow Escambia offers free developmental screenings for children from birth to age 8.

💙 All children develop differently; however, if you have any developmental concerns, bring them up to your child's pediatrician or contact a Help Me Grow Escambia care coordinator at 850-378-0322 or through our website at www.helpmegrowescambia.org, who will be able to connect you to necessary resources.

A cardboard box.
A walk outside.
A blanket fort.
A game of pretend.

Children don't need elaborate activities to learn and grow.

What they need most is time, space, and opportunities to play.

Sometimes the simplest moments create the biggest developmental gains.
