TEAMWORK AND FREEMASONRY
My first thought about teamwork is being part of a soccer team and having a position on the field of play and a role to play in that position.
As a defender, the role is to defend the goalkeeper from receiving goals, retain the ball and pass it to a striker, so the striker will then have the mission of taking the ball and kicking it past the opposing team's goalkeeper.
All team members work towards the same goal: to score goals against the opposing team.
Freemasonry and teamwork
The Masonic ritual is essentially made up of three plays in one act and an installation and investiture play in four acts.
In Emulation much of the Ritual is derived from the V.L.S. (the Holy Bible), from which much of his symbolic action arises.
To discuss about Freemasonry and teamwork, it is helpful to provide a definition of teamwork and also provide some aspects of the V.L.S. that are relevant to the analysis.
What is Teamwork?
Teamwork has been defined by some as “The process of working collaboratively with a group of people to achieve a goal.
Teamwork is often a crucial part of a business, as it is often necessary for colleagues to work well together, giving their best under any circumstances.
Teamwork means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflicts between individuals."
A work team is a group of people who are organized in a certain way to achieve a common goal. Implicit in this definition are the three key elements of teamwork:
1) Group of people: the work teams are made up of people, who contribute to them a series of differential characteristics (experience, training, personality, aptitudes, etc.), which will decisively influence the results obtained by those teams.
2) Organization: there are various ways in which a team can be organized to achieve a certain goal or objective, but, generally, this organization implies some type of division of tasks. This assumes that each team member performs a series of tasks independently, but is responsible for the total results of the team.
3) Common objective: we must not forget that people have a set of needs and objectives that they seek to satisfy in all areas of their lives, including work. One of the keys to the proper functioning of a work team is that personal goals are compatible with the team's objectives.
In short, we could define teamwork as directed individual action that, when trying to achieve shared objectives, does not endanger cooperation and thereby strengthens the cohesion of the work team. Cooperation refers to the fact that each team member contributes to it all of her personal resources to help achieve the common goal.
