Believe it or not, Beaver Marsh in Cuyahoga Valley was once a dumping ground filled with auto parts, tires and other junk. Today, it’s a thriving wetland and one of the park’s most beloved natural areas.

How did it happen? The beavers had a lot to do with it. 👀

Today is National Park Service Founder's Day, celebrated annually on August 25 to mark the anniversary of the agency's creation. On this day in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, establishing the National Park Service to protect America's natural and cultural landmarks. Thanks to the NPS, we're able to enjoy the beauty of these revitalized spaces (and a Scenic Railroad, too)!

Just another reminder for those who plan to use our Explorer program to get around the park.

Alert! The Towpath Trail between Boston and Peninsula will be closed August 24 – November 20 while we replace the Stumpy Basin boardwalk. Built in 1991, this boardwalk has been taking you over a very important wetland habitat for over 3 decades. During canal days, it was a spot wide enough to turn a canal boat around. You may have noticed rotting and uneven boards on the surface, but what you can’t see underneath are the aging wood pile foundations. We are taking a proactive approach and replacing the boardwalk rather than waiting for safety hazards to become more of an issue. In the end, we’ll have a brand-new boardwalk with more space to safely stop and enjoy the view. https://ow.ly/8E3050ZzWfy

The National Park Scenic and Explorer will not operate today, August 21, as we get the train ready to travel back to the 1980s tonight!

We’re busy preparing for tonight’s ’80s-themed Special Event Train, and we can’t wait to crank up the nostalgia.
