This is a great post about the current state of veterinary services and the need for funding to assist with spay/neuter resources. Work is underway on a proposal for a Umatilla county‑wide tax district to create a sustainable program addressing the ongoing issue of unaltered cats and dogs—feral, stray, and pets. This would ensure long‑term staffing and resources for the entire county.
Please watch for more information on how you can support this effort.

🐾 Important Update on TNR Assistance in Umatilla & Morrow Counties 🐾

Cat Utopia receives hundreds of requests every year asking for help trapping stray and feral cats—either for TNR or for outright removal. We want to be very clear: Cat Utopia does NOT remove feral colonies. Our mission is TNR, and we are doing everything we can to keep that service available for our community.

Right now, we have one older volunteer who handles all the trapping for Umatilla County and part of Morrow County. One person. That’s it. And like many long‑time volunteers, he is growing tired, and we are facing the reality that soon we may have no trapping volunteers at all.

💉 **Weekly TNR Clinic**
Every Wednesday, we transport cats to the feral cat clinic at Blue Mountain Humane Society in Walla Walla.
• It is not free, but grant funding is sometimes available to help with costs.
• Cat Utopia can assist with clinic appointments, loaning traps, and transport from Pendleton to Walla Walla and back.
• Currently, we also have a volunteer who can meet in the Hermiston area on Tuesdays for pickup and return cats on Thursdays—but this option will not be available forever.

✨ **We Need the Community’s Help**
We simply cannot trap every cat for every neighborhood. If you are willing to help trap the cats in your area, we can support you with the tools, appointments, and transport needed to get them altered. Community participation is the only way this program can continue.

📣 **Looking Ahead**
Behind the scenes, work is underway on a proposal for a county‑wide tax district to create a sustainable program addressing the ongoing issue of unaltered cats and dogs—feral, stray, and pets. This would ensure long‑term staffing and resources for the entire county.
Please watch for more information on how you can support this effort.

Email us at **[email protected]** with:
• Your full contact information (name, address, phone number)
• How many cats you need help with
• Any details you can share about the situation

📍 This service is only available for Umatilla and Morrow counties.

Thank you for understanding the limits of our small volunteer team and for stepping up to help the cats in your community. Together, we can keep TNR alive in Eastern Oregon.

Introducing Frieta! This kitten is super special and a very lucky family has the opportunity to add her to their family. 10 week old Frieta is a "wobbly" kitty and the best version available. Wobbly kitties are born with Cerrabellar Hypoplasia (CH) a non-progressive neurological condition where a kitten's cerebellum—the part of the brain controlling balance and coordination—fails to develop fully. Caused by in-utero exposure to the feline panleukopenia virus, it is painless and does not worsen with age. Frieta's CH is mild and causes her to walk like John Wayne, which is truly very cute.
Frieta's fan club (all of our volunteers at Cat Utopia!) are very invested in helping find Frieta the best home in the world! She is currently in a foster home in eastern Oregon but can easily be transported to the Portland area for adoption. If you are interested in adopting Frieta it all starts with an adoption application. This is the link https://forms.gle/6ezE7Y3UXotFLHSG8

Cat Utopia is proud to announce it has received a $12,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to support the purchase of a used transport van. This vehicle will be used to transport shelter animals and trapped community cats to low-cost spay/neuter clinics throughout Umatilla County, Oregon, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

The addition of a dedicated transport van will allow Cat Utopia to move approximately 600 trapped cats annually to spay/neuter clinics, as well as assist in transporting dogs and cats from local shelters in the Pendleton area. The vehicle will also support field operations, including trapping efforts across Umatilla and parts of Morrow County.
Each year, the Wildhorse Foundation awards grants to eligible nonprofit, government, and Tribal organizations serving the homeland of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla people. Wildhorse Foundation
