Brrrrrr. It’s a chilly one here today. If you’re coming to the garden, make sure you layer up. About 40 here.

We are starting to put the garden to bed for the winter. All help is appreciated laying boxes down and mulching.

Squash, beans, okra and a few other veggies are still producing though. So bug squishing is still happening also. 🫣🤪

Saturday, September 26th from 10am-4pm Holler to Holler mutual aid and JMHS Communities in Schools will be hosting a Really Really Free Market event at the Lindside Family Life Center (8998 Seneca Trail S).

All are invited to come get things they need, bring things they don't need, and enjoy one another's company. All items are free. People bringing stuff should bring items in good condition that others might find useful, such as kitchen items, baby clothes and toys, books, furniture to name some examples.

At a Really Really Free Market we try to meet one another's material needs, meet neighbors and deepen relationships. Anyone can bring things, take things, and hang out, without judgement or bureaucracy. The deeper point is that it's a time to celebrate and strengthen the human spirit of sharing and taking care of one another just cuz its the right thing to do. It's a time to remember the common sense wisdom that the right thing to do is to fix things when they're broken, make full use of our material items and minimize waste.

The Really Really Free Market can challenge us to think about ways that more parts of society and the economy could work based in that spirit of decency and the wisdom of making the most of the gifts of the natural world. Too many things in our world operate is ways designed to make the rich richer, not to help regular people live good lives and to take care of the land. So bring your thoughts and creativity for creating a kinder more just world as you come on down to the Really Really Free Market, hope to see you there!

🎬 VS. GOLIATH: Appalachia is coming to Fayetteville, WV during Thunder in the Mountains!

Join West Virginia Rivers Coalition, Thunder in the Mountains, Protect Our Water Heritage Rights, and 7 Directions of Service on Saturday, October 10, for a special West Virginia screening of VS. GOLIATH: Appalachia, part of the award-winning VS. GOLIATH four-part documentary series.

The film follows an army veteran who joins his neighbors in opposing the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a massive gas pipeline cutting through their Appalachian community. It tells the story of farmers, veterans, Indigenous leaders, and other community members from West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina who came together to protect their homes and communities.

VS. Goliath is executive produced by award-winning actor and director Don Cheadle, The Solutions Project, the Equation Campaign, and Fossil Free Media, and produced by Tikkun Olam Productions.

"The Mountain Valley Pipeline, in fact, became an example of a pro-development state using the 401 process to enact such protections. West Virginia ultimately added conditions to its water quality certification for the project that required, for example, advance notice to state authorities and the presence of state auditors during construction work that crossed the state’s waterways." (Yet they keep crying about "permitting delays.")🤷‍♀️

At issue is a Clean Water Act provision that has long given states a role in decision-making on infrastructure that would affect streams and wetlands.

Communities continue to warn that this pipeline puts their land and water at risk.

Now, inspectors are reporting more than 75 violations since Transco became legally authorized to build in late January.

Virginia DEQ is taking an important step by proposing a $179,000 fine against Transco.

But that amount is how much Transco profits in just one hour.

This is a step toward accountability, but stronger action is still needed to protect communities and their environment.
