This is a good overview of the classic Woolly Bu**er.
The Woolly Bu**er, and its many derivatives, is a good streamer to strip, swing or troll with great success for trout, bass, crappie, bluegill and many other fish species.

PFC members Mark W and Tom H fished Willow Springs Lake today and caught Tigers and Rainbows. With the big Cicada hatch this season the Tigers were having a feast sipping them off the surface, while at the same time hitting streamers in deep water.

It will be interesting to see how effective this system is at controlling algae. If successful, it could be a new tool for the Payson Water Department to use at Green Valley Park.

Payson Fly Casters recently purchased and delivered eight “medical grade” Oxygen Flow Meters to Canyon Creek Fish hatchery. These flow meters are upgrade replacements for flow meters used on the hatchery trucks that deliver trout to Rim Country Lakes and streams. These meters provide precise adjustments in the flow of oxygen to diffusers within the water tank trout reside in while being transported to lakes and streams. If the proper oxygenation is not maintained during transport the trout will likely die before making it to their final destination.

The efforts of PFC, as a Non-profit, are directed to providing supplemental funding, or in this case, a direct purchase of equipment, as well as volunteer labor to our local hatcheries.

Payson Fly Casters recently purchased and delivered four 2 1/2” x 24” Micro Bubble Oxygen Diffusers (similar to the one shown in the video) to Tonto Creek Fish hatchery. These diffusers are similar to “air stones” you would put in your tropical fish aquarium. The hatchery will use them in trout raceways or other areas where additional oxygenation is needed to maintain the health of the trout as they mature.

Scott Gurtin of AZGFD’s Community Fishing Program talked about the history of the Community Fishing Program, originally called the Urban Fishing Program, as well as current issues, fish stocking in town/city waters, poaching, water quality requirements, etc. His presentation was extremely informative and interesting.
If you’re in an AZ fishing club we recommend you book Scott for a presentation!

Gary Altman, one of the founding members of the Payson Fly Casters, is leaving Arizona to go live nearer to family. Today was his last time attending a club meeting prior to his move. His long time friends, Dorothy, Larry and Tom spoke fondly of their time together and reminisced about past good times.
Gary, you will be missed!
