Welcome back to Meet Us Monday!

Meet Osha!

Osha is our youngest female. She was born at Heartland Farm on April 23, 2018 to Ashwani and Goldylocks. She was born deaf; therefore, we have chosen not to use her for breeding. Osha was not named after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration! She is named after an herb called osha (Ligusticum porteri) that grows in the Rocky Mountains.

Osha has one blue eye and one brown eye and lovely white fleece. She is unique both in looks and in personality. She always looks a little goofy, and her personality always makes people laugh. However, don't be deceived, Osha will not back down from the bigger girls. She stands up for herself - especially if food is involved.

One interesting characteristic Osha has is that she almost always keeps a stalk or two of hay in her mouth which she often rolls with her tongue.

Delivery!

What will become our duck house arrived this week! Our current duck abode is too small to house more than our current adult ducks. Their new home still needs some retrofitting to suit our growing flock of waddlers, but soon the adults AND the ducklings will have a place that will keep them sheltered overnight and in all weather!

Happy Meet Us Monday!

Say hello to Emily!

Emily is the daughter of BlackJack and Cutie Pie and came to Heartland Farm with her parents and Sami from a farm in Missouri. She was born on July 23, 2015, making her just shy of 11 years old. She has not yet had a cria. She is completely black except for the striking white markings on her face. Em is a tall girl, with long legs and a long, thin neck that rivals Jubilee's.

Emily almost always can be found hanging out with the other Missouri girls. The three are a little herd of alpacas within the larger herd. While Emily is still a bit standoffish, she's grown much more confident than when she arrived in 2019.

One interesting characteristic Emily has is her developing leadership qualities. If Earlyne does not lead the herd to pasture, Emily does. If this trend continues, at some future point, Emily may end up as the leader of the girls' side of the barn.

Heartland Farm's good friend Eric Frieb was ordained into the priesthood on May 30th!

Father Eric has a long history with the Farm. In fact, we wouldn't have one of our essential buildings without him! In 2015, a young Father Eric decided to use his Eagle Scout project to the benefit of the Farm by raising money and in-kind donations for a new open-air, covered pavilion. His father Tim served as the contractor for the construction.

This pavilion is loved and well-used for everything from workshops and meetings to our annual Farm to Table Fundraising Dinner. Frankly, we can't imagine Heartland Farm without it!

Congratulations, Father Eric!

It's Meet Us Monday!

Meet Christi Abel!

Christi is the Operations Coordinator for Heartland Farm, which means she serves as a hub for Farm information. Christi also serves as the office manager, gift shop manager, and volunteer coordinator for the Farm. She has a degree in business from Barton Community College.

She is Director Brittany's righthand person. If you call Heartland Farm, you most likely will talk to Christi as she takes tour and overnight guest reservations and answers questions and inquiries. Christi also answers the Farm's emails, orders for staff and the gift shop, sets up the shearing schedule each year, and much more.

She and her husband live outside Great Bend with their three dogs, three cats, and three goats.

One special characteristic Christi has is that she and her husband have a small fold (or herd) of Scottish Highland cattle!
