This page is for folks who want to preserve and protect our Pawleys Island/Litchfield area lifestyle, as well as the environment, and all that that encompasses. Whether folks are natives, long-term residents, new transplants, or vacationers, our area WILL be impacted by allowing large corporations to quietly/subtly seize opportunities to market themselves due to the influx of population growth. Big businesses will have a negative impact, not only by causing small, family owned businesses to shut down, but environmentally. Clear-cutting to accommodate the large stores affects not only wildlife, but causes flooding. Pollution run-off from huge gas stations affects the fish/crabs/shrimp/oysters, etc that many consume, whether as a culinary delight while visiting, but also for those who depend on such for feeding families. Property values around those businesses decline. We are a unique area. We are on a peninsula (aka the Waccamaw Neck) with very limited land, which makes us very desirable - not only to folks moving here, but big biz wanting to capitalize on the growth. If you don't want us to become another Carolina Forrest or Mt Pleasant, SPEAK UP! Contact our County Council members! Attend the meetings!
