Happy Feast of Our Lady of Fatima!
If you've been to campus (we hope you have!) you've seen this artwork (Secret Between Brothers by Andre Durand) in the Jeske Art Gallery. In this piece, Pope St. John Paul II visits his would-be assasin, Mehmet Ali Agca. Two year prior, Agca shot the Pope twice while he was making his regular rounds in St. Peter's Square.
The assasination attempt happened on May 13, 1981, the anniversary of the first Marian appararition at Fatima. Pope St. John Paul II credited his survival to the intercesion of Our Lady. The pope's visit to Agca, depicted skillfuly in this artwork, is a beautiful, moving demonstration of God's mercy.
This piece is one of eight pieces in the Jeske gallery. All the other pieces arrived together. This one took a while to arrive, inexplicably. On what day did it arrive?
May 13.
:)
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
