The new year is finally here, and so are the new workshops. The workshops will be taking place from 1/21 to 2/25. Our Saturday Workshops aim to help students and families to explore their interests and harness their skills. There is something for everyone to enjoy!

As requested last week, the story for today is The three little pigs"! not only did we learn the moral of the story we also connected it to some simple Chinese Idioms such as 腳踏實地, 敷衍了事, 好吃懶做 and discussed their meanings. Everyone did great with the discussion today. We'll see you next Workshop season with more Chinese Stories!

April 30th

Today we discussed two stories: the gingerbread man that was requested a few weeks ago and an Aesop's fable called "a Fox and a Stork." The Gingerbread Man story taught us not to believe strangers easily, and the lesson of the second story is to treat others as we would like to be treated. We also learned some new Chinese Characters/Vocabulary: 薑 ginger, 鈕扣 button, 鸛鳥 Stork. Everyone did great with the discussions today, see you all next week!

Happy Easter! 🥚🐰🐇 Today, we listened to 2 stories about "rabbits" the first one is the iconic fable "The Tortoise and the Hare" 龜兔賽跑 and the second one is about the meaning of the Chinese Idiom 守株待兔. Although we can learn many things from these two stories, the common moral they hold is to stay hardworking, not slacking off.

So glad to see some new faces today! I hope everyone enjoyed our story today about one of the most important holidays in Chinese Culture- Qing Ming Festive 清明節! We know how this traditional holiday rose and became popular, but we also understand how it combined with the Cold Food Festival 寒食節 throughout dynasties! We also learned about some traditions people do this holiday and the foods people eat, such as Spring Roll.😊 Everyone did well with the discussion; hopefully, we will hear more of your voices next class!

Today, we continued to read the Journey to the West 西游記.
We learned about the story of "Handsome Monkey King" Sun WuKong after he came out of the eight-trigrams brazier. He lost the bet with the god Buddha and finally received his punishment. We all learned some new vocabulary from the story once more, and some beliefs people held in ancient China!

This is our first Chinese Workshop in Spring Season. So glad to see everyone again and the newbies who joined our workshop today! We kicked off with one of the famous classics- Journey to the West 西游記.

We learned about the story of "Handsome Monkey King" Sun WuKong and how he gained the talents of 72 Polymorphic transformations 72變 and immortality 長生不老. Next workshop, we will be finding out what happened after he got out of the eight-trigrams brazier 八卦爐 and his journey to the west! We all learned some new vocabulary from the story.

Today is the last day of our Winter Workshop. The day's story is a Chinese version of Shel Silverstein's famous "The Giving Tree." The story can be interpreted in a variety of ways. The primary moral, though, is to recognize and be grateful for the sacrificial love and time are given by our family/loved ones.

As usual, we discussed two short stories today!

The first story is 白雲枕頭, which teaches us to learn to be tolerant and acknowledge mistakes everyone make. Just like the baby pig and the bunny, they both learned how to repsect each other’s boundaries after the conflict! The second one is a famous story about 唐朝詩人李白 Poet Li Bai from the Tang Dynasty. Also explains meaning of a Chinese Idiom 鐵杵磨針.
