Love Like Ashley

Love Like Ashley Spread kindness where it is needed most. Be a friend to someone who needs one. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Give big bear hugs. Celebrate others successes.

Be inclusive. Its the little things that make you . The Love Like Ashley Memorial Fund, established in 2016 by the Cistaro Family, is a tribute to our daughter, Ashley Nicole Cistaro. Ashley passed away very suddenly on March 27, 2016. Ashley was a sweet, loving, kind and happy nine year old whose scrunchy smile warmed the hearts of everyone who knew her. All it took was an introduc

tion, and Ashley considered you her friend. She welcomed everyone into her circle with open arms. Even as a young girl, her empathy and compassion for others extended well beyond her years. She lived her life to make others feel accepted and always celebrated others’ successes regardless of her own. Her heart, mind and soul were filled with kindness, joy, love and so many sparkles. She wasn’t afraid to be herself and never felt the need to follow the crowd. Ashley truly was an angel on earth. Ashley loved and adored her people: Mommy, Daddy, big sister Ella, her puppy Huey, her cat Charlie, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and each and every one of her teachers and friends with her whole heart. She loved cupcakes; cookies; all things peanut butter; lip gloss morning, noon and night; cheerleading; dancing; being silly; the beach; and all things pink, purple and sparkly. Ashley was a joy to be around, and truly left a little sparkle wherever she went. The Love Like Ashley Memorial Fund exists as a community fund to support local, philanthropic causes that honor Ashley’s all-accepting, selfless, empathetic spirit. In addition, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to students who have demonstrated the qualities that Ashley possessed and made a difference in their communities throughout their high school career. While donations are much appreciated and what will keep this fund going for years to come, the Love Like Ashley Memorial Fund is solely about honoring Ashley's beautiful spirit in all that we do. Enjoy the little things in life...Snuggle with your loved ones. Say I love you any chance you get. Be silly and make people laugh. When life gets difficult, keep going and don’t ever give up. Most importantly, spread kindness where it is needed most. Ashley was taken from us far too soon. In her short time here she created a legacy with her kind, sparkly spirit. Above all things, it is our hope that all who come upon this fund will dedicate their lives and choose to live and Love Like Ashley.

✨PHS Scholarship Recipient✨

Last night we had the pleasure of awarding the 2026 PHS Love Like Ashley Scholarship.

This year's recipient is a young woman who embodies what it means to "Love Like Ashley" through her dedication to serving others. In her essay, she shared how her involvement in the Parsippany Cube Club evolved into an opportunity to mentor younger students, build community connections, and support fundraising efforts that benefited families in need. She recognized that making a difference doesn't always require a grand gesture—it often comes from using your talents to help others and bring people together.

Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to community service reflect the spirit of Ashley's legacy.

In the fall, she will attend Drexel University and major in Finance.
We are honored to present a $1,000 scholarship to Barkha Patel.

Congratulations, Barkha! Thank you for helping to make the world a little brighter for those around you.

✨PHHS Scholarship Recipient✨

Monday night we had the pleasure of awarding the 2026 PHHS Love Like Ashley Scholarship.

This year's recipient is a young woman who embodies what it means to "Love Like Ashley". In her essay, she shared how her family's experience navigating her father's disability taught her the importance of empathy, compassion, and supporting others through life's challenges. Rather than allowing difficult circumstances to define her, she chose to use those experiences to become a source of kindness and encouragement for others.

Her commitment to helping people, whether through small acts of kindness or her future goal of becoming a teacher, reflects the spirit of Ashley's legacy.

In the fall, she will attend Penn State University, where she will major in Education. We are proud to present a $1,000 Scholarship to Madeline Harmon.

Congratulations, Madeline! Thank you for helping to keep Ashley's light shining in the world.

Ten years. A decade. It feels impossible to even say. Not a single day has gone by that we don’t think of her—usually many times a day. The love hasn’t changed, and neither has the missing.

I often find myself wondering who she would be today—what she would love, what would make her laugh, where life would have taken her. Those thoughts come from a love that never had the chance to keep growing alongside her.

Over the years, we’ve learned how to carry this loss while still living our lives. We’ve laughed, grown, and welcomed Olivia into our family—such a bright and beautiful light. And Ella, now 21, continues to amaze us every day. Our hearts hold all of it at once: deep love, deep gratitude, and deep grief.

I think sometimes people assume that after this much time, we’re “okay.” And in many ways, we are. But grief like this doesn’t go away —it becomes a part of you and manifests in other ways- sometimes anxiety, sometimes physical symptoms, sometimes extended periods of feeling blue and in so many other ways.

“She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.” And our girl still does. In the memories, in the love we carry, in the little moments that remind us she’s always with us.

Ashley Nicole, we miss you more than words could ever express. You are so loved.

Forever our sweet girl.

everyone you meet is carrying something you can’t see…

some people are healing, some are hurting, some are starting over, and others are just trying to make it through the day…

we only ever see a small glimpse of someone’s life

Everyone is going through something…. whether it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between.

That’s why kindness is so important.

The way you speak, the way you treat people, and even the smallest actions can have a bigger impact than you realize.

So be gentle. Be patient. Be understanding. Be kind.

Because you never truly know what someone is going through, and your kindness might be exactly what they needed that day. ❤️

10 years ago today we officially adopted Huey!

Ash was so excited to take care of him. I can still picture her, clear as day, in her pink polka dot pjs and pink Uggs in the backyard, waiting for him to p*e and excitedly giving him a treat when he did.

Definitely one of her top 10 happiest days ever. 💖💜 🐶

Mount Olive High School senior Matthew Reiner was honored on Tuesday night by local officials for his bravery after helping rescue 30 dogs from a fire at One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR) in Andover on Feb. 11. Reiner was working nearby at a construction site when he and his coworkers smelled smoke and rushed over. Mount Olive Mayor Joe Nicastro said six dogs tragically died in the fire. 💔

"Your quick thinking and actions made a real difference,” Nicastro wrote in a social media post, praising Reiner for breaking locks on the dog runs with bolt cutters and using his work clothes to protect some of the animals.

Our sweet Huey is 10 today!🐾

For those that have met Huey, you know that it is no coincidence that he was born on Ashley’s birthday. He is the sweetest, gentlest, snuggliest pup ever!

We adopted him on February 27th, 2016 and Ashley got to be his mama for exactly one month (March 27th). He has been such a blessing for our family and is a true angel in disguise- he’s simply the best!
