🚨🐾 **RICO NEEDS A FOSTER NOW** 🐾🚨

Every once in a while, a dog comes along who feels less like a rescue dog and more like the sweet, wise soul who has been quietly running the household all along.

**That is Rico.** 💛

Rico is an 8-year-old Cockapoo with the calmest, gentlest spirit. He loves children, gets along beautifully with other dogs, is potty trained, crate trained, bell trained, and knows an impressive list of commands.

He loves walks, car rides, sunbathing, snuggling, and being close to his people.

And according to those who know him best, Rico is basically **Nanna from Peter Pan in dog form.** 🥹

He notices everything.

A door left open.
A puppy chewing something it shouldn’t.
A child sneaking a snack.

Rico is the kind of dog who keeps an eye on his family because caring for his people seems to come naturally to him. ❤️

He also has a few very important household policies.

🛏️ Sleeping in bed with his person is non-negotiable.
🍽️ Dinner left unattended may be considered fair game.
⏰ Meals served late will result in a formal complaint.
🪑 And apparently, sleeping under furniture is perfectly reasonable.

Rico has Cushing’s disease, but it is well managed with daily medication, which he happily takes in a pill pocket. He continues to live a full, happy life.

Most importantly, Rico has **no known behavioral issues and no separation anxiety.**

He is simply a loving, loyal, funny little gentleman who suddenly needs somewhere safe to go.

And he needs that place **immediately.**

🛏️ Preferably someone willing to share the bed

🐾💜 TODAY IS FOR THE DOGS! 💜🐾

August 26 is National Dog Day & World Dog Day — and around Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, we can think of a few furry faces worth celebrating. 😉

Today is about the dogs who make us laugh, steal our spots on the couch, follow us into the bathroom like personal security guards, and somehow know exactly when we need a paw, a cuddle or a ridiculously enthusiastic welcome home. ❤️

But for us, today is also about the dogs still waiting.

The seniors who suddenly find themselves without a family.

The mill survivors learning for the very first time that human hands can be gentle.

The frightened dogs discovering that a home can be safe.

The medical dogs getting the care they desperately need.

And the beautiful souls in foster homes right now, waiting for someone to look at their picture and say:

“That’s my dog.” 🥹

Every dog who comes through RMCR has a story. Some arrive carrying scars we can see. Others carry ones we can't.

But their past doesn't get to write their ending.

That's what rescue is all about.

So today, celebrate YOUR dogs with us! 🐶🎉

🇺🇸🐾 MEET LIBERTY — SHE’S READY FOR HER SECOND CHANCE 🐾🇺🇸

Her name feels especially fitting.

On July 3rd, after the frightening boom of fireworks, Liberty was found wandering as a stray. Someone had loved this little girl once, but despite efforts to find her family, no owner ever came forward.

So now, at 10 years old, Liberty finds herself looking for something she never expected to need:

A new forever home. ❤️

And goodness, does this little lady have love left to give.

Liberty is a petite Terrier, weighing between 10–20 pounds, with a wonderfully friendly and affectionate personality. She appears to be housetrained, enjoys other dogs and small animals, and has earned perhaps our favorite personality description of all:

Professional Couch Potato. 😂🛋️

Liberty isn't asking for grand adventures.

She'd be perfectly happy with a comfortable couch, a cozy bed, some leisurely time outside and — most importantly — a person to love again.

Senior dogs have a way of making themselves at home in your heart without much fuss. They don't need to be taught what matters. Liberty already knows.

It's being together.
It's feeling safe.
It's having someone come home to you.
It's knowing you belong. 💜

Liberty's first family couldn't be found.

Maybe we're supposed to help her find the family she gets to grow old with instead.

🐾💜 TOM & JERRY ARE STILL WAITING — AND WE REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW. 💜🐾

Some dogs arrive in rescue looking for a best friend.

Tom and Jerry brought theirs with them.

These two precious boys are bonded — truly bonded. They play together, learn together, find confidence in one another and simply want to be wherever the other one is.

Now they need one more thing:

A family to belong to. 🏡❤️

Tom and Jerry are affectionate, playful, smart and absolutely delighted by their new lives. They LOVE their people. They LOVE fetch. They LOVE car rides.

Actually, they may love car rides a little too much because these clever hooligans figured out how to roll down the car windows themselves. 😂

Safety locks: ON.
Doggie seat belts: ON.
Adventure: COMMENCE.

But underneath all that silliness is something incredibly tender.

These boys are learning what it means to live in a home and be loved simply because they're there.

They're doing beautifully with the other dogs in their foster home and have even learned to live peacefully with the resident cats. Jerry is potty and crate trained, and Tom is nearly there. They're learning routines, manners and how to take turns — and they respond beautifully to praise, consistency and gentle guidance.

And every day, they blossom a little more. 🌱

Jerry is about 7. Tom is about 5.

They're past the tiny-puppy chaos but still have plenty of playfulness and adventure ahead of them. Give them a ball and they'll happily play fetch. Grab the keys and they're ready to ride. Sit down for some quiet time and they're happiest knowing their people — and each other — are close.

They haven't been tested with children, so we don't want to make promises we can't yet make. But what we do know is that these boys are affectionate, people-loving souls with so much love waiting for the family that chooses them.

And yes, adopting two dogs is a bigger commitment.

But there's another way to look at it:

You aren't adopting two dogs who need to find their person. You're welcoming an already-made little family that needs somewhere to call home. 💜

They entertain each other.
They comfort each other.
They play together.
They navigate new experiences together.

And someday, someone is going to look across their living room and see Tom and Jerry curled up together — safe, loved and finally home — and wonder how they ever lived without them.

We just need that someone to SEE THIS POST.

🚨 EMERGENCY: DUKE NEEDS SOMEONE TO SAY YES. 🚨

We have shared Duke before. We’ve asked for help before.

But no one has stepped forward — and now this sweet 13½-year-old boy urgently needs to move. 💔

Duke is currently living in a one-bedroom apartment with cats, and Duke does not like cats. It isn’t a comfortable situation for him or his feline roommates, and we desperately need to find him a calm, child-free, CAT-FREE foster or adoptive home ASAP.

Please don’t scroll past this senior boy because of his age.

Duke still has wonderful life left to live. And what he wants from that life is beautifully simple.

☀️ A patch of sunshine to nap in.
🛏️ A soft bed.
❤️ A human nearby.
🥪 And apparently your sandwich, if you make the rookie mistake of leaving it unattended.

That’s Sir Duke.

He’s a gentle, low-energy Cocker mix who lost his home when his family became homeless. Through circumstances he could never understand, everything familiar disappeared.

And now, at 13½ years old, he needs to move again.

That part breaks our hearts.

Duke is deaf and has a heart murmur that currently isn't causing problems. He is potty trained, may bark or howl when initially left alone but settles, and would be happiest with someone who is home much of the time.

He doesn't need hiking trails or a packed social calendar.

He needs peace.

He needs someone who thinks an old dog sleeping beside their desk sounds pretty wonderful. Someone who wouldn't mind sharing the bed with a senior gentleman. Someone who understands there is something incredibly special about being the person who gives an older rescue dog the security of knowing:

You don't have to go anywhere anymore. This is home. 💜

🏡 DUKE NEEDS:
A calm, cat-free and child-free home, preferably with someone around much of the time.

If you've ever thought about fostering but weren't sure you could do it, this may be your dog. Duke isn't asking you to keep up with a rambunctious puppy. He mostly wants companionship, comfort and a place where he can finally exhale.

PLEASE — we need someone to step forward now.

🚨 URGENT: FINNEAS NEEDS A SPECIAL FOSTER HOME 🚨

Finneas needs us — and right now, he needs one experienced, compassionate person willing to give him the structure and security he needs to succeed.

At just 3 years old and 30 pounds, Finneas is a high-energy, goofy boy with SO much personality. He loves walks, car rides, toys, fetch, head pats and, most of all, being near his people. He’s also one smart cookie: he knows sit, down, roll over, heel, wait, leave it, paw, touch, spin and more. 🐾

But Finneas is struggling, and he urgently needs a new foster home.

Finneas has fear-based aggression and has exhibited bite behavior described as a nip and release. We want to be completely transparent about that because finding the right foster is critical. He needs someone experienced and patient who can recognize that fear is driving his behavior and give him the calm, predictable environment he needs.

💜 And his foster will NOT be doing this alone. RMCR will work with Finneas’s veterinarian on the appropriate medication plan and arrange for a trainer to help his foster understand and safely manage his behavior.

His ideal foster home is quiet and calm, with NO children, and has someone who can provide plenty of exercise and a consistent daily routine. Finneas does best when meals, potty breaks, medication, activity and bedtime are predictable. He also needs to remain part of household life rather than being crated or isolated somewhere he cannot see or understand what is happening.

Finneas has previously lived with a senior small dog and senior cat and generally does well with other animals. Any introductions will simply need to be slow and carefully managed.

There is a LOT of wonderful dog underneath the fear. ❤️

Finneas is young. He’s smart. He’s playful. He wants to be with his people. What he needs now is someone who can look beyond the behavior and give him the combination of boundaries, patience, exercise, predictability and compassion that can help him feel safe.

There’s something especially heartbreaking about a dog who has spent seven years alive — but is only now beginning to learn what it means to truly live. 💔🐾

Meet sweet Betty. 💜

Betty is one of the mill dogs who recently arrived at Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue. Her veterinary care is complete, but some of the most important healing she needs can’t happen in an exam room.

Betty is learning how to be a dog.

She’s learning that a human hand can bring kindness. That a home can be quiet and safe. That another dog can be a friend and a teacher. That she can rest without being afraid. That she’s allowed to have choices.

And perhaps, eventually, that she can be loved without asking anything in return.

At seven years old, Betty is still very timid and socially unsure. She needs time — not pressure. She needs a calm, quiet home with an experienced dog person who understands that progress with a mill survivor may come in the smallest victories: taking a treat, choosing to stay in the room, following another dog outside, or one day deciding to come a little closer.

Those tiny moments are enormous for dogs like Betty. ❤️

Betty will need another dog in her home to help show her the way. Children are frightening to her, and because scared dogs can run when overwhelmed, she must also be treated as a flight risk. Her world needs to be predictable, secure and patient while she discovers that life has changed.

She may not run into your arms.
She may not know how to play.
She may not even understand yet that she wants affection.

But none of that means she has less love to give. It simply means no one ever taught her that it was safe to give it.

Betty has already survived the hardest part of her story. Now she deserves the beautiful part. 🌷

Please share her story. Somewhere out there may be the patient, experienced person who looks at this frightened little red Cocker and doesn’t ask, “What can she give me?”

They simply say, “You’re safe now. Take all the time you need.” 💜🐾

🐾💙 WELCOME TO RMCR, BANDIT! 💙🐾

We have a handsome new face to introduce — and this sweet boy has already stolen some hearts. Meet Bandit, a gentle, happy 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel who has officially joined the Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue family. 💜

Bandit has a few medical hurdles ahead of him, so for now he’ll be hanging out in our Recovery Room while we get him feeling his very best. He is currently being stabilized on medication for epilepsy and will need to be neutered and have a dental before he can be cleared for adoption.

But Bandit? He’s taking it all in stride. 🥹

This sweet guy simply loves being near his people. He’s calm, affectionate and easygoing, and he gets along well with other dogs. He’s also house trained, crate trained and — somebody alert the Cocker Spaniel community because this is apparently possible 😂 — walks beautifully on a leash!

Bandit also has vision impairment related to his merle coloring. He navigates his world by watching shapes and shadows and does remarkably well. New spaces may require a little extra patience while he learns his surroundings, but Bandit doesn’t seem interested in letting limited vision keep him from enjoying life. 💙

His epilepsy requires medication three times a day, which he handles like a champ. What he needs most is consistency, kindness and people willing to understand that being a little different doesn't make him any less wonderful.

Right now, Bandit isn't available for adoption quite yet. His job is to settle in, get healthy and let us learn more about him.

Our job is to make sure he gets everything he needs to do exactly that. 💜

And someday soon, when this beautiful boy graduates from the Recovery Room, we have a feeling someone is going to be incredibly lucky to call him theirs.

Welcome to your new beginning, Bandit. You're safe now. 🏡🐾💙

💛🐾 SIR DUKE IS READY FOR HIS HAPPILY EVER AFTER 🐾💛

We’d really love to give this good boy the update that matters most:

“Duke, someone chose YOU.” 🥹💜

Duke lost his home when his family became homeless. At this stage of his life, he isn’t asking for grand adventures or a packed social calendar. This sweet, low-energy Cocker mix has much simpler dreams.

🌞 A warm patch of sunshine.
🛏️ A soft bed.
💻 A human to snooze beside while they work.
❤️ And a home where he knows he belongs.

Duke is calm, friendly, potty trained and deaf. He has a heart murmur that currently isn’t causing problems and some mild separation anxiety, so someone who is home much of the time would be his dream person.

And while he may be a distinguished senior gentleman, we should probably disclose that his manners are not entirely impeccable. 😂

🥪 Leave a sandwich unattended and Sir Duke considers it a donation.
💊 Pills? Absolutely not. Unless liverwurst is involved.
🍳 Breakfast? Hard pass. Duke prefers dinner.

Basically, he knows what he wants in retirement. We respect that. 😂💛

Duke would do best in a quiet home without young children or cats, with someone who appreciates the extraordinary companionship of an older dog.

Because senior dogs are different.

You don't adopt them for all the years you might have together. You adopt them because every year they have left deserves to be wonderful. ❤️

Duke has already lost one home through circumstances completely beyond his control. We would love nothing more than for his next move to be his last.

The wonderful thing about volunteering with RMCR is that there isn’t just one way to help. You don’t have to foster a dog, have rescue experience or commit huge amounts of time. Whatever you have to give, there may be a place for you here.

🐶 Foster — Open your home to a dog while they wait for their forever family.

🚗 Transport — Help get rescued dogs to foster homes, veterinary appointments or meet-up locations.

🎪 Volunteer at events — Help us represent RMCR in the community and introduce more people to our mission.

🎉 Host an event or fundraiser — Turn your creativity, workplace, neighborhood or social circle into an opportunity to help our dogs.
